New car looking for good exhaust
Hi, I'm new to the site and am about to get a 2000 Eclipse GT (dont know what emissions yet) and was wondering which cat back system has the deepest, closest to v-8 sound. One of my friends has a greddy cat back on his eclipse and it sounds good, and magnaflow sounds good on their site, but still nothing on my friends Mustang GT with flows. Just wondering which you guys think sounds the best (best meaning mainy deep and mean sounding NO RICEY OR FARTING EXHAUSTS please
). Thanks.Also what kind of horse power do you think I'd be making with a performance exhaust system (including shorty headers, cat back system), injen CAI, all new royal purple fluid? |

FYI: Your car will never sound like american muscle because....it isnt. No exhaust in the world will make your car sound like a throaty V8. Instead, we get the nice mellow idle note, and under full accell a nice crisp rumble.

I think I'm going to go with a magnaflow exhaust system after winter time is up. After everything I've read about full catbacks, Magnaflow seems to have one of the best sounds but not the loudest (compared to Invidia,Greedy,etc..). Really it's all based on what you like, everyone will find one alittle better sounding then the other. No full catback exhaust is going to make your car sound ricey.

Also, does the spyder GT require 92 octane to run? Because I've read serveral places that it does. Just wondering how accurate that was.

i'd like to see you get very much power out of a cat-back exhaust, really. if you do i will gladly change what i had posted and post your results as a standard. i would like to see some dyno sheets of what you actually run as well. the fact is that eclipse GT's already have a good exhaustfrom the factory and the only thing you are going to change is going to be the sound.
On other cars the exhaust makes a large difference, but not on this one. If you want the v8 sound, then get a v8. don't even bother screwing with this car because you will be sorely disappointed. if you read the owners manual all GT's and GTS's should run 91-95 octane all the time, on the rare occasion when you are desperate 89 will suffice. Do not substitute octane booster for real octane, because they are not the same.

I'm talking about headers and cat back exhuast making some power, not just cat back. Also owners manual says they "should". but can they run without screwing up on 89 octane? I know about GST but just GT. And i would get a V8 but apparently I'm going to "kill myself" with a V8 so I am froced to get a V6. So which cat back sounds closest to V8 or if you are going to say nothing will even ever come anything close to it, which is the deepest?

Also on your sticky it says that cold air induction is no better than warm air induction, and the real ram air kit is left out. First wouldn't CAI be better than WAI because cold air is better for your engine than warm or hot air? Also, I don't know a lot about eclipses being a camaro guy but are there real ram air kits for eclipses not just those crap short ram air kit things? Because if there is I think it should be included in those induction options. Also just wondering all the info on that sticky, is it stuff you researched or stuff you know? Because if you knew that much about cars, I think you would focus more on performance on your eclipse, or not have an eclipse and have a V8, unless you really like the body of an eclipse.

most of the cai available are also available as a short ram version.
you can't run this car on 89, and mine is spoiled cuz it rarely ever sees 91. it just doesn't like 91 octane as much as that good old 93. headers and cat-back, you still won't see 200 hp to the wheels there is no "ram air" kit as you put it, and i assume you mean through the hood. it's pointless cai's might make 1whp more than a wai i didn't write much of it, fellow member eclipsed4utoo did and i've got a galant to do my drag racing so i don't really use the eclipse much unless it is just getting around.

I know i won't see 200hp at the wheels with a lot of stuff, but i mean you will get more than a 3whp gain, and I'm not talking about power on the CAI, I'm talking about the CAI is better for your vehicle just like higher octane fuel is better (if owners manual says it can handle it), so I don't care who wrote it, but I think people who don't know a lot about cars will be mislead and buy a WAI because its "louder" when they should invest in a CAI if not ram air through the hood which isn't even listed. And raim air through the hood isn't "pointless", it gets clean cool air outside the engine bay and forces it into your engine, which is a whoooole lot better than anything pulling air inside the engine bay, so no I don't think it's pointless. Also, no offense and I haven't read the specs on your Galant but why would you take a Galant to the track instead of something with real power?

Hah 25lbs of boost I can see now so nevermind... But why all that trouble when you could get a Camaro or Mustang, unless you are a die hard Mitsubishi guy or something (never heard of one).

You are obviously VERY new to the import scene because there are die hard fans of any make of car. Mitsu is known for having very die hard 3000GT and Evo guys/gals. I also KNOW that many people dont buy V8's simply because they HATE ford or chevy (myself included)...i dont care what kind of HP numbers they put up because a turbo 4 or 6 can make the same if not better numbers with the right tuning...plus it's more of a statement to say that you can make a 2.0 I4 turbo motor get 600+ hp than it is to say a 4.6 liter V8 make the same. I really like the 3G body style, even though it isnt the ballsiest car out there....but if you wanted it to be it has the potential to be a monster. Most of the big posters on this site know what they are talking about...and you get much better info from a real person instead of what a website wants you to believe. The biggest problem most of the guys have on this site is when noobs come in and start bashing everyone in their first few posts....we know what we are talking about so there are very few occasions where we can be questioned.

I'm not very new to the import scene an i know what you are tlkaing about, my friend has a 98 eclipse gst pushing about 600hp at the wheels, but I've just never really heard of huge mitsubishi gatherings and stuff, mainly because it's not an american classic, and I'm not trying to be disrespectful or anything to you guys, just clearing up some things. Also when it gets into pro street you can't get the same times as a V8, I'm sorry, but just street probably, but I personaly just like V8s for the sound, and i know you know what I'm tlaking about, also rear wheel drive.

And when you say import...you are classifying all these non-muscle sports cars right? Because eclipses are american made (w00t).
