Alarm system installation

I'm going to be getting an alarm system this Friday and was wondering if anyone has installed a system into a 3KGT before? Are we going to have to take the whole door apart? Sure hope not.... Any instructions/tips/advice would be much appreciated. Thanks folks.

Here is something I just came across on programming new keyless entry remotes for an aftermarket alarm:

Q: How do I program the remote for keyless entry?



A: Programming the keyless entry receiver will be required when you purcahse a replacement "FOB" or keyless entry remote unit. The keyless entry receiver is located behind the rear interior panel near the drivers seatbelt (drivers side). Here are the steps for programming your remote for keyless entry:
Remove the rear hatchback cover
Remove the rear seat:
Pull the two handles near the center of each seat section on the bottom portion of the seat
Lift the seat bottom upwards and set aside
Remove the two 12mm bolts at the base of the rear seatback on the drivers side
Remove the driver's side rear panel:
Remove the rearmost screw on the plastic strip that sits over the rocker panel
Remove the screw on the cover of the rear seatbelt retractor then remove the cover
Remove the screws holding the seatbelt harness from the frame. This can be tricky since there is little room to work with. Use a stubby screwdriver
The seatbelt itself does not need to be removed. You can just remove the harness and leave the seatbelt threaded thru the panel
Remove the screws closest to the rear of the car that are located on the plastic header and footer around the drivers doorframe. These typically overlap the rear panel by a small amount and may need to be loosened to move the rear panel
Behind the rear panel you should see a box in front of the rear speaker - this is the receiver unit
Remove the receiver from the car body
Find the switch labeled SET 1 - FIX - SET 2 and move the switch to either SET position. (the two SET positions are in case you have two transmitters with different codes)
Press any button on the remote transmitter
Move the switch back to the FIX position
Test the new remote transmitter
Reconnect everything making sure that the antenna connector is tightly connected to the receiver

Just out of curiousity, me being dumb...., did all 3000GT's come stock with and alarm system? Cuz I didn't get a keypad with mine if they did.

Igovert500, is programing a keyless entry the same thing as installing an alarm system? Because I was thinking that I'd have to like hook some stuff up that connected directly to the "lines" for the car locks and so forth. But I've never done it before so I don't really know....

When I got my ride insured yesterday the chick asked me if the alarm system came with a locaitor (like lo-jack or some other brand name), I have a viper alarm system so does anyone know if it does and how I would prove I have it without the stupid paperwork the insurane people want?

Thourun, I have a viper and I don't think it does. Then again, I wasn't the one who had it installed, so I really don't know.
Slade, no they aren't the same, if you are installing an alarm, there will be more work, like running wires and other stuff I don't know about. What I posted before was just something I stumbled across. It is probably just the last step in installing an alarm, because you will probably want the remote on your alarm to do more than just disarm the alarm, you will want it to unlock the doors as well. So that is where my first post will come in handy...i think.

yeah, goto www.directed.com and look up guides then to install. That will get the info on the alarm. Then goto www.bulldogsecurity.com to get your car's info.

Umm.....I don't get it.... The installation guides on www.directed.com were only for speaker stuff. And the bulldog place doesn't have the Viper 791XV series (unless if I can't find it). Help!?!

Sorry about that. They must be updating the system or something. The install guides for the security and such was on there a few weeks ago. As for the Bulldog site, that was for you to look up your car's wiring info.

The wires in your car needed to be hooked up to what ever aftermarket item you want to install.
