speakers with stock HU
Will I be able to replace the crappy paper speakers in my type-s but keep everything else stock?
I'd also like to put an amp in there. Would that be okay with the stock system as well (after replacing the speakers)? Sorry in advance if this is repeated. |

Re: speakers with stock HU
you can replace with good quality speakers like Infinity, Polk, ect. speakers. You might need adapter to connect or you can just cut and crimp the end wires.
with an amp you would get more power from the speakers, and sound better, but only if you stock unit has an amp output. |

So yes, I did replace the speakers and kept everything else stock. I don't know about adding another amp since the HU has a built in 4 channel amp and there is a 100W amp in the back for your sub. It was very easy to replace the four speakers. The instructions on clubrsx only pertain to the base model. It is easier for the TypeS. I ordered from crutchfield since they give you the wiring harnesses and the adapter plates for free. You wont need the adapters they give you for the front speakers because the TypeS has a plastic piece that you can directly screw the speaker into. No need to drill holes in the door! Otherwise just follow the clubrsx instructions. Oh, and I also didn't disconnect the power window switches. I just rotated the panel vertically and placed a box underneath to support it. Then just unscrewed the three screws, unplugged the speaker, plugged in the new one and screwed it in with the original screws. The rear ones are a little more complicated since you need an adapter or have to drill three new holes in the plastic. I don't plan on upgrading the rest of the system since it has enough bass for me and I like the idea of having the 6cd changer up front. I didn't swap out the tweeters, but that's really simple to do as well. It's almost like the rear speakers without the need of an adapter. I would recommend using a flat tiny screwdriver to pry up the rear and tweeters. The kind of screwdriver you use for eyeglasses and such. That way you won't scratch up the dash/covers. If you plan on getting component speakers, I would recommend just re-doing the whole system. I've read a few posts on clubrsx where the components didn't sound very well when hooked up to the stock HU. Well, hope this helps a little. Let me know if you have any other questions. |

Re: speakers with stock HU
Thanks a ton mmont0. That really helped considering the salesmen at Ultimate Electronics and Best Buy didn't seen to know what they were talking about.
Also, I don't want to pay their prices for speakers, so that means I wouldn't get a free install with them. They charge right at $40 per speaker pair! Just for installing them! You made it sound pretty easy so I think I'll just do it myself. I've looked at component speakers but honestly I'd rather just go with regular speakers because of the price. I've been looking at some 4-way Pioneer's that I might get. My friend installed them on his car and they sound great. Last thing, did you have to use any type of adapter to hook them up? And if so, did Crutchfield include it? Thanks again for all your help! |

Re: speakers with stock HU
Yes, there was an adapter plate for the rear speakers and the wiring harnesses for all four speakers. Crutchfield provides all of those and the adapters for the front speakers as well, for FREE. But, like I said before, the front adapters that they send you are NOT needed.
Let me know if you have problems installing them. It should only take you about 3-4 hours to do all four speakers. |
