Question Lowering Springs How-to...

Anybody have a how-to on spring installs? Is a spring compressor necessary. The price I got at a local performance shop was $80 for the spring install, should I just bite the bullet and pay the $80? Or is this a one-day type install that I could do myself (without tool rentals). Thanks for the advice in advance!

Re: Lowering Springs How-to...

yes itz necessary if u don't want to get hurt or break something around u...i believe itz autozone that rents those...

i just let my springs fly off when i did mine...was faster but not the safest thing to do and i wouldn't recommend doing it

Re: Lowering Springs How-to...

u need a manual or someone that knows how to take the strut assembly aloose from the car...

to take the spring off....u need a wrench, allen wrench and spring compressor...

u 1st have to take the tire off...then pop the hood...locate the 2 bolts holding the strut in from the top, then look at the bottom of the strut assembly and take that bolt off...but put the spring compressors on 1st...and that's it

to do the rear...take the tires off...put the spring compressors on...pop the hatch/trunk and located the bolts holding the strut assembly in...take those off and then locate the bolt holding it in at the bottom and take that off...

to put it back on...just work in reverse...the front will be more tricky...my 1st time it took me like 4 hours b/c the fromt kept messing me up and i really didn't know what i was doing...the 2nd time took me like 45 minutes

Re: Lowering Springs How-to...

I'm done with the install! I DIDN'T need a spring compressor, you were right BLU CIVIC. The springs were hardly compressed anyways since they were lowering springs. The install is super easy and I figure I'll post a link to the site I used for help just in case anyone does a search for it.
Thanks to DeepStaged for the How-To...
Here's the link: http://www.deepstaged.net/spring_install.htm

Re: Lowering Springs How-to...

Took me and a friend about 4 hours...that was between beer and burger breaks (it was the fourth of July). Pretty much all the info is in this thread between what Blu Civic posted and that Deep-staged write-up. And he's right, the first time is a bit tricky but once you do it once it's easy. Good luck on your install.
