passat vr6. anyone know about them? better than gsx

is a 95 passat vr6 better than a gsx? im about to get a 97 gsx and i came across my neighbors car. he is a porsche mechanic and said that the gsx will break down quick and there is more potential in the vr6. i really love the gsxs and noe i can take care of one. but yea that vr6 felt really good when i was driving it. i never drove a gsx so i dont know the diff. so i dont know. has anyone drove one? opinions will be appreciated thanks.

VR6 is a nice reliable engine that VW makes and has alot of potential but if you were considering something as sporty as an eclipse then the Passat is really not in the same league.

I'm a big fan of German cars and a Golf VR6 Gti would be very nice.

As far a reliablility, the guy is feeding you shit, it could go either way.

If price is an issue the GSX would definately be better for building up on.

On the other hand if you have a family to haul around the GSX might be a little cramped.

I agree. The fact that the 4g63 needs almost no engine work to support lots of power gives it TONS more potential over most cars. I'd go with the gsx if you are willing to take very good care of it.

On my site there is a video of my car, mildly modded, on pump gas, racing a golf VR6.

Viewer distcretion is advised....

ive seen my neighbor take off on a gst (mostly stock) lite mods some local punk. it was a thing to see. he just imberesed him. but i dont know still. do you guys know the specs of vr6? Ive heard good things about it. but i basiclly have my 97 gsx on lay away. its in my fingertips by next week. So i dont know. kind of havin second thoughts. he is VW racer on the track. he drags bugs. so he is reliable on knowledge. he goes to the track when its nothin but VW allowed. he also said if didnt want that he can get me the 1.8t gti. I think the newer ones but it will cost me my 98gs and like 2k more. good deal or no?

the reason he only goes to the track when only VWs are there is because he doesnt want to mess w/ dsm.

Re: passat vr6. anyone know about them? better than gsx

the vr6 is a quick car, and does have tons of power potential, and it is a fun little car. i've never driven one myself but i've been in the car and its an underetimated bad little car. but the statement about it having more potential then a gst or gsx is just laughable, there's not many cars period that have more potential then the 4g

all in all they are about dead even in speed stock for stock

Re: passat vr6. anyone know about them? better than gsx

the vr6 is a fine engine. but it has limits. and super/turbo charging it is very expensive. once you do the basics like intake, headers, exhaust, chip, whatever, you will be done, other than cracking the engine open.

GSX on the other hand, the sky is the limit, and it is all bolt on.

and i believe that VW's and reliability are not the most common words you see in the same sentence [uynless it's negative]. now mabey if i was a Porsce mechanic [german] i would be a bit sided to my choice of cars. i also think that if this guy put his collective experience into a 4g63 powered GSX he would never go back to VW.

that said, get the GSX, and soon enough you will be smoking your Porsce fixing neighbor
