90 crx with DOHC ZC problems???

Alright

My buddy has a DOHC ZC in a 90 crx dx that we converted from auto to manual.

ok here is the problem:
He was driving on a neighborhood street an the car starts to lose power. He's in 4th gear at this point and down shifts to third and gives it some gas.well, the damn car revs to 3grand an won't go any higher. He then puts it into nuetral an gives it a rev.Still only getting to 3grand an it sounds like it hits a rev limiter or something.Like it wants to bog out.

So, we take this thing back to his house and let it sit for about 30 mins.It won't start now.We wait another hour and all of a sudden damn car turns on like that. And now it's revving fine.We let it idle for about 3 minutes when the car all of a sudden dies.

So that is what happened. So far, we've changed the cap and rotor thinking it might be the rotor. We also disconnected and re-connected the ecu just to make sure.Slapped on a new air filter onto it because the other one looked a little dirty.

Now, the only other things i can think of at the moment might be the fuel filter or fuel pump.Anybody out there have any idea's has to whats wrong with it.Now the car will run for a few mins before just turning itself off.Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 90 crx with DOHC ZC problems???

hey i dont mean to be a thread stealer.. my friend is having the same problem and we are trying to figure this one out: he swapped out :

injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, 3 sets of spark plugs, he recently swapped his spark plug wires to new ones and his car ran fine for a day, now its back to shizz. it seems like its running off of 2 cylinders. completely unplugged all sensors and doulbe checked all wiring re plugeed it all (same for the fuses, same bull.

another wierd thing is that he lets his car sit, most likely it will only get fired up once a week. i remember one time, it ssat for a week, i drove it to a gas station on a 1/2 of tank, filled it up, and from the gas station it ran like hell! i had to torture the poor honda to get it home!

timing, checked and even changed it a couple of times same for the gaps on those different sets of plugs. = we are trying a lot of things even on his vafc, constantly trying different settings...

is it possible his distrib is dieing? we are running out of things to swap/ideas... his setup is a y8bottm, z6top a lot of new parts!

Re: 90 crx with DOHC ZC problems???

once more i dont mean to be a thread stealer.

On my friends car the problem was his timing has at 28 degrees (off by 2 teeth) and his fuel pressure regulator was stuck close.

after those 2 were taken care of, everything was fine.
