97 trailer wires
I have a late 97 1500. I found the Break controller harnes under the dash and fuse, relay under the hood, thus it looks like my truck is pre-wired for towing a trailer. problem is I didn't get the tow package with my truck and now I need to connect a 7 wire connector to tow a camper. Does anyone know where to find the wire connector at the rear of the truck. It should be a light blue wire if it is to match up with the wire on the connector under the dash.
Thanks for your help. Wayne |

Re: 97 trailer wires
That's probably the OBD-II connector you saw.

Re: 97 trailer wires
If your truck did not come with the hitch, and all associated wiring, there is an adapter to plug in the 7-pole trailer connector. It taps off of the main wiring harness, where the tail light harness plugs in. I am not sure where to pick these things up in the aftermarket, but I was able to get them from dodge up here. Quick, simple, and no guesswork.

I called one dealer here in houston and all he knows about is the whole harnes that runs from the front to the rear $250. I told him I have the white break controller connector under the dash. he siad it sounds like I already have the harness, but could not tell me anything different. He didn't know about any harness for just the rear like what you noted. Do you have the dodge part number I can give my dealer?

I finished the wiring on the truck. I ended up running my own wires making my own harness instead of using the one from Dodge. all works well. The pre-wired brake controller connector was under the dash, thus all I had to do is find the wires I needed and connected to them.
Thanks everyone for the help. |
