2 infinity reference 1230w 12" subs bridged to one Pioneer.....
I have 2 12" Infinity Reference 1230w subs bridged to one Pioneer 2 channel 760w max amplifier. The subs power ratings are as follows:
recommended power range: 50-300 watts RMS peak power handling: 1,200 watts The pair of wiring from the two subs are on top of eachother bridged on the amp. I was wondering if this is ok or if I should power each sub with it's own amplifier. is 760 watts max into one channel enough power for one or should I get a more powerful amplifier? Also, what guage speaker wire should I use for the subs? Please let me know what I should do. Thanks |

Re: 2 infinity reference 1230w 12" subs bridged to one Pioneer.....
not sure how you-re wired, but...
sounds like best match with what you have is to wire 1 sub per channel (amp prolly givin about 175 - 200W RMS per channel - just guessin - u didn't say amp's RMS rating...) personally, i'd get a bigger amp use 8 AWG speaker wires all above IMHO :-) |

8 AWG sounds more like a power wire than speaker wire......anyways, this sounds like how I had my set-up before. I think the way you have it wired is at 2 ohms, and there isn't a spec given for bridged rms power at 2 ohms, (but its 380 x 1 rms @ 4 ohm) the amp puts out 125 x 2 at 4 ohm. I would leave it how it is, assuming you have both the speakers + to the + on the amp, and both speakers - on the - on the amp (bridged) that will give you the most power, but you will be slightly overpowering the subs. (I have the same amp, and was running 2 pioneer 450W max subs this way for more than two years with no problems; until I was really beating on them one day, and they went up in smoke )

haha; even 12 is a pretty thick gage; it all depends on whether youre gonna stay with the same amp or not i guess......im using 14awg, and that's been working fine
