Progress: '64 Galaxie
So I've asked some questions about it, so here's the progress so far. It'll be fairly quick, I'm not doing anything real bangin' on it. The body will be from the AMT '64 Galaxie promo kit (the body is from a 5 year old build up, I have a new one coming). The chassis and engine are from the AMT '60 Starliner. The wheelbase is almost perfect, and there was only a bit of trimming necessary to get the chassis to fit under the body. There may be some mods to the underside of the body, but I don't want to try it on my old build, as I want to preserve it. It just screws on and off the chassis, so I used it for the mock up:
![]() Chassis. Anyone with more knowledge than me is invited to point out anything I may have screwed up unwittingly. ![]() The color will be a similar powder blue sort of color, but shiny and metallic this time. Those are the wheels I plan to use. I was going for a mild custom treatment, but AMT included no chrome motor parts, so it's going to end up almost stock save for the wheels and the ride height. That's a bit disappointing. The engine will be wired, and AMT provided the majority of the engine plumbing, so all that will look nice and detailed. Absolutely any criticisms, especially accuracy criticisms are invited and encouraged, as this subject matter is almost completely foreign to me. Beautiful, interesting as all hell, but foreign. Thanks for lookin'.

You've got it down so far, but I'm wondering what your plan is for the floorboards considering how differently shaped the '64 Galaxie and the '60 Galaxie are, not to mention the fact that while the '60 has a separate frame, the '64 doesn't.

Re: Progress: '64 Galaxie
Cool! It's always great to see what modelers can do when they break out of their typical genre of car.
I can't wait to see this classic with VTEC stickers on it.

And CADguy, where do you think the VTEC decal would be best? I was thinking ahead of the rear fenderwell, but maybe to be different I'll put them on the hood.....?

Re: Progress: '64 Galaxie
You are not building a honda? Oh no...this world has came to an end...T_T
Put spoon sports decals under the side mirrors, and advan stickers on front fender, a big white "spoon" on the back windows, and change the wheels to spoon sw388.

Re: Re: Progress: '64 Galaxie

I think I must've used some confusing words. I didn't mean that the '64 Galaxie was a unibody car. I meant that the '64 Galaxie kit had the frame and floorboards molded as one single unit while the '60 Starliner kit has the frame molded separate from the floorboards. The Starliner kit's interior builds up on the floorboards, while the Galaxie uses an interior tub. Not to mention that while the two cars' chassis are practically the same, the interiors are nothing alike. So, the basic problem becomes "how are you going to replicate the Galaxie floorboards and what are you going to do for an interior?" The motor looks okay, but I can send you some dress up stuff from the custom kit if you'd like something more boss. How's a pair of chrome Thunderbird lettered valve covers and a triple two-barrel carburetor intake setup sound?

Re: Progress: '64 Galaxie
Ohhh... ok, man you had me all sad. Sweatin' over the chassis that I had sorted! The interior tub almost fits between the chassis and the body, so one option is to just sandwich it in there. However, The only real big differences in the two cars' interiors are the dash, the transmission tunnel, and the rear seats/package shelf. (I was going to change the front seats anyway) I am planning to cut the transmission tunnel out of the Galaxie's interior tub, as well as the rear seats/package shelf and glue them onto the Starliner's chassis. Then I will use the Starliner's door panels since they are far better engraved and pretty close to the Galaxie, and then put in the Galaxie's dash. (I know, I know, they aren't exactly the same..but it will look way better!)
And about the motor parts, you have a PM.
