95 Neon Frustrated

Hello everyone;

I hope someone can help me out here...

My neon has just died, and this is what was happening and what was done so far so I hope someone can help me out here....

For the past month the car has been backfiring, and stuttering and no power. Then it up and died. It would run for about 2 minutes then shut down, sometimes it could be restarted sometimes it would just crank.

I have had a mechanic friend tried the MultiTech diagnostic computer to it and it reveals no codes or problems. I have also replaced the TPS, Ignition Coil, AutoStop Relay, Fuel Pump Relay, fuel filter, we checked all the sensor wires for proper resistance, changed the PCM, Cleaned the Throttle body assembly. We even had the Fuel gauge to ensure we had proper fuel pressure at all times. It showed proper fuel pressure.

In the end i may have to get dodge to come and tow it to the shop...I doubt they will find the problem easily and charge a fortune for it too.

Help

Re: 95 Neon Frustrated

I've seen the spark plug wells fill with oil. Also carbon tracking of the spark plugs. Easy to check.

Unhappy Not good

Backfiring, rough idle and other problems of the like are signs of improper timing. Could be that your timing belt skipped a tooth or that it snapped, as one of the previous posters had said. If that is the case, then you may have significant engine damage since the engine is an interference engine. Check everything realting to your ignition system, plugs, wires, distributor, cap, rotor, pickup, etc... Also could be a head gasket problem as well or cracked head. Did your car ever spew any white smoke when it was running? Check your coolant for any oil in it or vice versa.
