Ive had my 1992 accord lx for almost 8 months now. the person that had it before had the radio stolen out of it. i got a book and installed a new wiring harness and everything... after a few months every once in a while my stereo would shut off for a second... then turn back on. it progressed to turning off for minutes at a time... then it just stopped working. ive checked all the wiring... even bought a new cd player thinking that it could be the cd player thats messed up. the new cd player does not work as well. it only gets power to eject a cd. when i start the car nothing happens. IVE TRIED EVERYTHING! any suggestions?

First thing I would do is run your own power wire from the battery to your headunit. This way you know for certain you have power to it. Sounds like the power supply wire or ground wire was becoming damaged by rubbing against something until wear-through or loose at the connection end? Maybe the grommet the wire ran through in the firewall slipped out due to a hasty install before you got your car? Power wire or ground wire rubbing/moving around will quickly wear or become disconnected causing the problems you described. Installing a new wiring harness? You're still using the existing wires. The fact that your cd player would turn on before the power wire went means your remote lead is fine and you didn't say anything about lack of sound sound. Your lucky then, it sounds pretty simple. Run your new power cable from the battery and make sure your ground wire is secure.

I agree check your ground and power. Grounds tend to go bad more than power.

Re: Help Me Plz!
my LX does this wacky thing, I get faint static noise all the time, but it goes away when i press on the sound adjusters that pop in and out (bass, treble, balance). Don't ask how i figured that out i honestly forget it's been doin it a long time.

Re: Help Me Plz!
You need a new stereo, Mr Gibby. And, by the way, don't hijack other people's threads - start one of your own.

ok good ideas. i suggest you get a volt meter and check how much the power wires are putting out, if not just get a simple test light and connect it, move the wires around while doing this, if the test light flickers then you know which wire it is, try this backwards for the ground as well. if you are going to run a new wire do it from the fuse box, not from the battery.it looks sloppy and is not safe, only the amp wires, and maybe air horns, should be attached to the battery and even then they need a separate fuse. good luck hope this helps.
