Question Instrument Panel Upgrade?

92 Lumina 3.1 with worthless instrument cluster.
I want more info from my car!

Does anyone know if I can replace my cheap-a$$ gas gauge/speedometer instrument cluster with the better one that has all the gauges in it, simply by putting it in? Does my car have all the necessary equipment and wiring? I'd assume in GM's fashion of using off the shelf parts to create virtually every car, that they wouldn't wire the car specifically for the instrument cluster to be used, but that's just a guess. I think I've seen other Lumina's with the cluster I want, but I'm not too sure. I'm not about to drop in a set of autometers or DD's, cause that would look so "import tuner-ish". Has anyone tried, ot heard of this? Any advice?

Re: Instrument Panel Upgrade?

Well I have seen the entire assembley on ebay with voltage, tach, gas, speed(I think it was up to 110) and a few others....But you would have to tinker with the odometer in one if you got a junkyard one and set it to whatever yours is.....That isn't hard at all....I am pretty shure that all gm cars are wired for tach and temp and stuff like that....Theres a black/white wire coming from the module for the tach......And I think it was a dark green/white for my temp....I did aftermarket gauges though....You could also cut some abs to put in place and mount the aftermarket gauges in there if you really wanted to spend some time on it.........

Re: Instrument Panel Upgrade?

I have a '92 Euro Lumina. I've seen the different instrument cluster that is in the 3.4 Luminas. Is it possible to switch my instrument cluster to a 3.4 cluster?

Re: Instrument Panel Upgrade?

In the 95+ body style, yeah, its fairly easy. Can't tell you about the older ones though. I'd like to think since it is GM that it'd be fairly easy, since ease of installation/removal means ease of mass production. I'd imagine it'd be fairly simple; in my car, the PCM handles every sensor input from the car, and so it'd be logical that you could monitor every sensor input somehow, be it a guage or idiot light.
