Question Windshield Seal Problems

I thought this was odd, but maybe it's a common thing and I'm just unaware of. A month ago we took a day roundtrip of about 550 miles. Few days later the carwash place found two chips in the windshield and fixed them for me (no problemo). Just over a week later, I get in my car to find a crack from the very top of the windshield to the middle driverside (noticably started by an undetected chip). One day of cold rain followed by a hot day of sun cracked it good! Anyway, after explaining to my insurance company why I needed a whole new window just after them paying to chip fix it, I was told that I had to wait at least a week for a windshield for my vehicle to be shipped for install. I finally get the windshield today and when the guy went to install it, he informed me he probably shouldn't cause the seal that holds the windshield on is off around the bottom from what appears to be 'shrinking'. He was afraid that if he replaced the windshield (or he said TRIED to replace) that it would void my warranty which it should be under since it's only a year old and never replaced before. I called Toyota and they told him to fix it and that I have to have it in the dealership first thing in the morning. The guy replaced my windshield (very hesitantly) and informed me that the seal will mostly like pop back off by morning because they had to stretch it to fit and it left a gap at the end. The repair guy said he's never seen that on a new windshield before and I'm questioning if it's happened to other Sienna's. I'm just glad it was caught before my 850 mile road trip with my kids next weekend. Would not have been happy to have the seal come completely off or block my view driving in the middle of the desert between AZ and CA!

Re: Windshield Seal Problems

I have a 2002 with the same problem. It started as an 8 inch long crack in the middle of the passenger edge (no apparent chip or ding) from under the seal. Now its all the way across and down the middle. I am about to have it fixed. I hope my insurance co. doesn't give me trouble over it. I have heard that others have had this problem but have found no other mention on the internet except from kjohnsonusa.
