94 olds 88 cooling system problem.

The car (94 olds 88) was leaking coolant and overheating. Took it to a shop and they said the waterpump was the problem.

I changed the waterpump but the leak persists. The water just runs out when added to the radiator(engine is off).

I had changed the hoses too and its not the hoses that are leaking. the leak seems to be coming from close to the waterpump but we cannot see anything.

Any suggestions?

hate to say it, but go to the parts store and get some coolant dye. Drop that in, shine a flouresant light around the water pump on the block and look for a crack on the block, that's my best guess. I hope i'm wrong!

Re: 94 olds 88 cooling system problem.

'94 Olds 88 I'm guessing its a 3.8 liter, so check the plastic fitting by all the radiator and heater hoses and thermostat bypass hose, these tend to crack or seals go bad. The serp belt tensioner housing has coolan passages(dont ask GM engineers) this housing can also leak, and finaly the intake manifold itself leaks but thats usually on 96 and new gm 3.8's hope this helps
