Fuel pump overheating

Hey all,

Have a walbro fuel pump running to a carbeurated 350. The line goes from the tank, to the in-line pump, then straight to the carb. My problem is that the pump keeps overheating and killing the vehicle. I'm sure its the pump, so we don't have to waste time diagnosing. What I'm wondering is what ways can I use to keep the pump cooler? There is no return line on my setup. There is just one inlet and one outlet on my pump. I heard a return line would help, would it? How would I plumb it?
Any other ways of cooling it? And if its over heated so much (its starts knocking and I have to let the vehicle sit for awhile when it starts doing it) is there a chance that its totally shot now?

Thanks for any help!

Re: Fuel pump overheating

A 12Volt muffin fan could be used to blow air over it I suppose but the pump should not be overheating in the first place. If the pump is the right size then it should not be working all that hard to feed the 350. Maybe the pressure switch is set to too high a pressure or something. As far as a return line goes the pump could have the pressure relief valve vent to the inlet line side.

Sorry, can't think of anything else. Good luck with it.
