v-tec crate motor
I have a 91 honda accord ex and I was wondering if swaping the factory 2.2 leter for a v-tec crate motor would be a good idea? I also wonderd where I woud be able to find one, and what I would expect to pay for one?

Re: v-tec crate motor
If you do any kind of swap you need to go H22a 200 hp drop in like factory.

Re: v-tec crate motor
I think by saying v-tec crate motor, he was hopefully talking about a crate h22a. In otherwords, a new (or in some rare cases, rebuilt) engine. Honda dealer is about the only place, however, going with that route is going to be expensive. I'd call for a price quote, however, you're likely looking at mega bucks if you want a new tranny too. You should go for one of the many importers and get a fairly new used one from japan.
Check out my sig if you want as well. - Nathan |

I was told that insted of a f22a swap with 200 hp I shoud get a 300hp v-tec crate motor. He didn't say what exactly what was ment by it just that it was 300horses and coust around $2,000.but if there isn't anything like that then that is fine. A f22a is fine with me. also I was wandering about a 6 speed racing trans to replace my foctory 5 speed.
Thanks, Tom |

A 300hp Honda engine would have to be a built one, I don't believe even the C30 or C32s (NSX engines) had 300hp stock. Either way, it will cost you far more than $2000 to get one. I have a feeling whoever told you that was full of shit.
For that price, closest thing you might be able to get is an F22B with maybe some pistons, rods and a new cam. Still, that won't be near 300hp. H22As run for more than $2000 and only crank out around 200hp so that couldn't be it. I suppose you could get one built for all-motor applications but you're looking at the price of the engine ($2,500-$3,500) plus another 2-3 grand worth of internals. Edit: Your car should come with the F22A, SOHC non-vtec engine. If you wanted vtec that badly, you could upgrade to an F22B1, which is an SOCH vtec. However, the F22B2 is an SOHC non-vtec so you wouldn't want to swap that in. I should tell you though, it probably isn't worth your money to swap in to an F22B1, just because you're not getting a whole hell of a lot of horsepower anyway, and trust me (since I own one) the F22B1 is an engine that is HARD to shop for. Finding a new cam, new pistons, rods, etc is difficult at best.

thanks for the info it has helped a lot. but still wondering where I could find a 6 speed racing trans to replace my 5 speed with. also I was wondering if there is a twin turbo setup that I could by for my car, so that I would not have to custom bild one for it.
thanks again, Tom |

Re: v-tec crate motor
6-spd racing trans are going to be expensive, and probably will have to be a custom job if you plan to keep the F22a.
Twin Turbo setup for an Accord? Not likely. In fact, probably impossible in kit form. Almost definitely a custom job, and might I add, not worth the money. If you want to turbo your engine, then you'll want to build up the internals first so you don't risk ruining something. Sleeve it, replace the rods and pistons, etc. Engine work and turbos are expensive, and twin turbos are even more so. Don't forget you'll need to redo the fuel system as well, and get a boost controller. For the total amount, you're probably looking at enough money to buy a whole new car.
