67 cobra mustang

A friend of mine recently found a 1967 cobra mustang for sale. Neither of us know much about older mustangs but I have not been able to find anything about a cobra made that year. I have not had a chance to speak with the owner yet but I think it is a replica of another year. Does anybody know if there was a cobra made in 1967, and if it could possibly be authentic by the picture? I made still consider getting it even if it is a replica. Thanks for your help.

If memory serves the only Mustangs made in 1967 with the fake scoops behind the side window would be Shelby Mustangs. As far as I know they only came in two flavours, GT350 and GT500. If it were a Shelby then GTXXX is what should be stencilled on the side and not "COBRA". It seems to me that there was a Shelby Mustang with a Cobra Jet engine but as far as I know it was called the GT500KR and the side stencil was still just GT500. Perhaps some other people can clarify the subject further since Mustangs are not something that I know very much about, sorry.
