Smile Factory wiring color codes for '01 FAQ

First off I would recommend you spend the $10-$20 for the wiring harness adapter and not cut any wires on your factory setup, it just makes things easier if you ever sell you vehicle and want to keep your aftermarket (afm) stereo, or if you have a lease.

There are three wiring harnesses if you have the 6 CD in dash changer with steering wheel remote. One has the power, ground, 12v, dimmer, and front speakers. The second one has the wires for the rear speakers, and the third has two wires for your steering wheel remote.

The afm standard colors and purpose will be listed first followed by the factory color on the harness:

Main Harness
Red - Power (ignition on) = Green w/ Red stripe
Black - Ground = Pink w/ Black stripe
Yellow - 12v (constant power for memory) = Red w/ Yellow stripe
Orange - Dimmer = Blue w/ Red stripe
White + - Left Front + = Blue
White - - Left Front - = Black w/ White stripe
Grey + - Right Front + = Brown
Grey - - Right Front - = Black w/ Red stripe

Second Harness
Green + - Left Rear + = Lime Green
Green - - Left Rear - = Black w/ Yellow stripe
Purple + - Right Rear + = Orange
Purple - - Right Rear - = Black w/ Pink stripe

One problem I had was the ground for the wiring harness I bought from Wal-Mart and the factory ground didn't match up. If this is the case for your setup, I would suggest using an inline wire tap to ground your afm. The ground is the Pink w/ Black Stripe on the main wiring harness.

Also your stock stereo (assuming you have the 6 cd in-dash) requires the antenna to be plugged in to work. I found that out trying to install my factory player into another car.

There also dosen't appear to be a Remote On (Blue) connection on the factory harness. Be prepared to run a wire if you're going to run an afm amp.
