Headers

so what do you guys think is a good set of headers to put on a 91 z28 305. of course im looking for something with good flow, better to be inexpensive than not, and of course something thats made for my application. ive read too many stories about crappy headers that need to be bent to install (who the f*k would do that?) or where the collector leaks...im looking for something that will practically drop right in. also, a friend of mine with an 87 t/a installed hooker comps on his and he told me they basically had to take the engine out to do it. there has to be a build thats actually been made with this car in mind, any ideas?

well ive been lookin at some made by DynoMax. most reviews ive found are positive. im still wondering about the install...right now i have a flowmaster exhaust setup with no cats. is that going to give me any problems when installing headers? the reason i ask is because i had an issue on a previous car that had no catalytic converter (removed) and i was trying to find an exhaust system to hook up to it, and i was turned away by most of the shops because the exhaust system supposedly would not fit, so i had to go with a universal muffler. if im going to have that same problem with headers, well that would suck.

if your car doesn't have a cat, and your looking for a cat-back system you'll have put in a peice of straight pipe. you'll have to do the exhaust yourself, because most muffler shops wont touch anything with no cats if it came from the factory with em

Re: Headers

well i put edelbrock headers on my 89, with a catco converter, and flowmaster american thunder exhaust with 80 series muffler. i couldnt be happier with it except for one little deal. you cant change the spark plugs. well, not without pulling the headers off first. they routed the primary pipes right over top of the plugs. and you cant get a socket or wrench on them. slightly annoying, but i plan on emailing them to ask if they have a way around this, or probly gonna just make my own socket with a hex head on it in order to get in and unscrew the plugs.

Re: Headers

alright so thats the deal with a cat back system, so what about the headers? i would guess that a flange should be in the same place where the cats started so im gonna check that tomorrow and im hoping the headers will still fit in right. can ya tell i dont know much about exhaust systems :-p

Re: Headers

? i was only talking about the headers...... as far as the flange where the cat was, a muffler shop shouldnt have a problem welding in a strait peice of pipe where the cat was. so long as your state dosnt have emissions laws.

Re: Headers

sorry guess i didnt explain it right. it already has no cats, and a flowmaster system, stock header manifolds. just wondering if there is going to be a problem putting headers on to complete the system.

Re: Headers

oh sorry, well, if you have no cat, then what is in its place??? like is it a welded peice of piping to connect the catback pipe to the y-pipe? or were factory style bolt flanges welded on to bolt them together, or did you just slip the y-pipe into a larger pipe and use an exhaust clamp to hold it together? if its a connection that is easy to break free. id say youre ok. but even if its not, i cant see why a muffler shop cant just fab up a section of pipe to connect the two ends. my install was a snap cuz i used a converter, so my y-pipe just slipped onto the cat, and the cat bolted to the catback pipe. easy as pie.
