99 Acura TL vs 03 Civic Si

Second time driving this TL was a blast, such a nice v-tec engine and I'm just waitin at a red light for some body to race, next thing i see is a green si and my friend is driving it! lol what a coincidence right, so i ask him if he wants to go for a run and he nods so i put the tranny in sports shift (my TL is automatic but it has the option of driving in sports shift which is basically switching gears manually but without any clutch)

so i take off at about 3000 rpm, hit 5000rpm and the v-tec kicks in and feels like a small shot of nitrous literally, switch into second, v-tec roars again and but this time i'm about 1.5 cars ahead of him, and by the time we finished i was about 2.5 cars ahead of him which is pretty decent since im just getting used to this sports shift

Nice kill!

Those auto-sticks are great fun, i drove a Sebring GTC Convertible that had one in it (i know, not a great example!) and it was a blast!

Still no replacement for the real thing, but close enough i suppose.

wow 03 si's are that slow? becuse i drove a non type S TL they felt slow as balls, i couldn't even feel the v-tec engaugement point at all. ( well that is becasue i'm used to driving my car, and my mom's TL type S) i was not impressed with the ordinary TL at all, but i'm surprised you still took out a Si. well good kill.

Re: 99 Acura TL vs 03 Civic Si

you are right im sorry for saying they are slow. however when i am cruising on a friday or saturday night the last thing i even think about racing is any kind of civic. no offense to any one but around my town there just are no fast ones. i know there are a shit load in the U.S that would hand me my ass and laugh about it lol. i just dont consider the SI to be all it is hyped up to be. i have raced 3 so far and beat them all by a few car lengths easy. once again no offense.

Stock Civic SIs are over rated i agree.

Unless you tune them up right, i think they're a pian in the ass to drive. If you're racing that is. You have no low end torque, you have to mash the gas and hold it there until you get between 7000-9000 RPM and the same result in gear 2 (My experience in an '02 i believe, not an '03 but i doubt there's much difference). It's not until 3rd gear that you start to see some performance out of the car, and that drives me nuts.

In comparison, the SI manual tranny against my car. He's got me off the line for his weight advantage, and his extra gears. But when i shift into my second gear, that's my power gear. I catch up as he's starting to run with his 3rd gear. My 2nd gear holds his 3rd and half of his 4th gear. The top 1/2 of his 4th gear and 5th gear are decent, and my 3rd gear in comparison is my highway gear, so i get close, but the car is just too old to hold him anymore and he will win.

However, the point is that in comparison with my driving experience having driven both vehicles, i'm not impressed with the 'off the showroom floor' model. Plus the ergonomics suck. (i hate small buttons)

But tune them right, their great little cars.

Again, nice kill.

my mom does own a 3.2 TL type S so i do know how to drive it fast such as turning off the traction control, and then putting it in manuel mode. that regular TL felt slow as balls, i could barely hear the v-tec engaugment point and i sure as hell couldn't feel it. that was in manuel mode also. the car only reved to 6.2K when the 3.2 type S can rev to around 6.6-6.7 and has like 35 more hp. so after gettin use to driving the type S ( which by the way doens't feel fast at all compared to my car or my friends cars ) the ordinary TL felt extremely sluggish and it felt like its constantly struggling to try to move.

also the newer Si's doesnt' even have a 3rd lobe on the cam shaft. their v-tec is for fuel economy. so off v-tec they have a super small lobe that opens only 1 intake valve. when you hit v-tec it switches over to the regular sized lobe to open up 2 valves. and nothing more.

the reason why people want Si's becasue the older B16A powered Si's were the most powerful civics you can buy in the market. most civics back then only made like 97 crank hp. and the ex sohc v-tecs made a little bit over 100hp. so a 160hp civic was like gods gift.

Isn't it because they're the most powerful civic stock? 160HP or something and like 120 ft-lbs Torque...Dn't quote me on this, I know almost nothing on Honda

Actually, the insurance isn't cheap anymore...they're among the most popular vehicles to be stolen since f&f and those movies came out.

They were #7 on the top 10 list not too long ago.
