Slow r33gts25t
Hey all well after earning some money i decided to do something to my car ... not any mods but at least change my spark plugs and gap them to 0.8 mm and advance the timing ... Well im doing this because my car feels really ... and I mean REALLY flat at high ends ... not much difference in acceleration from 3000 rpm and 5000 rpm im hoping changing spark plugs and advancing the timing will do the trick ... once that is done i can do some mods ... has any body done this ? spark plugs and timing .... if you have ... did you feel some difference in performance ? I heard some guys car felt really flat and he got his s/p and timing advanced and gained more power ... any comments or suggestions of doing something to my car before modifying ?
thx all |

Can't really recommend advancing the timing as the RB25DET runs a high compression ratio for a turbo. A stock R33 will seem sluggish in the mid range because they have a 2stage boost solenoid which opens to give another 2psi at around 5000rpm, therefore the sudden rush.
That said by raising boost they will still feel sluggish because the A/F ratio is too rich for max power. An ECU change or adding an interceptor device to the factory ECU will allow the A/f ratio to be altered on a dyno. My advice is filter,exhaust,9-10psi stock intercooler with water spray. When you can afford an ECU or interceptor then buy a larger intercooler and raise boost to 13-14psi. The next stage would be larger turbo but budget for injectors and pump if you go too big. |

hmmm thx for your reply turbo mad ... but ... i dont think i ever felt a sudden rush while on high boost or high rpm ... it just feels like a slow constant acceleration ... i lost pathetically to my bros WRX at the high end ... i mean pathetically ... there must be something that explains this ... my car is auto and so is his ....
and suggestions wat might be actually wrong ? |

I'm not sure how rich the R33's run or where they run rich but mine was running rich apparently and Tim at RPM performance fitted a Fuel Pressure Regulator Bleed Kit.
Apparently The fuel pressure reg opens up according to boost. i.e bleed a little bit of it off and the fuel pressure reg doesn't open as much. hence the AF wont be as rich.. There is a vacume hose going from the inlet manifold to the fuel pressure regulator. I think the kit and setup was around the $70 mark inc. dyno run. A hell of a lot cheaper that an interceptor. But I guess it lacks the flexibility of an interceptor.

have you ever changed your auto trans fluid? If not... do it. You'll find a world of difference.

my r33 takes off again at 5000 and you would notice it
i am runnin 11psi and its not to bad but i want MORE!!! and you should blow the WRX away (if it aint modded big )
