180 or 160 TSTAT ON A HOT WEATHER!!

Here where I live the weather temps is around 100 def (F) or more. Today i put to my 97 GTP an drilled 180 Tstat. The temp on my car is around 1/4 or a little more (about 160 to 180). I think if i put a 160 deg tstat, that temp on my gtp doesn't work fine and the tstat stills open always. What do you think?. Suggestions, comments?

Thanks a lot !

I would stick with the OEM TEMP Stat. If you go with a cooler stat it will mess with the ECM function.

the reason to go to a cooler stat is to reduce KR. by lowering the engine temps, det is reduced, which lowers the chance of KR. but if you haven't done anything to your car yet there is very little reason to run the motor cooler because it lowers gas mileage and does not allow the motor to burn off the crap that builds up in the motor.

Re: 180 or 160 TSTAT ON A HOT WEATHER!!

I run a 160 tstat in Texas.

Both my pcm's have lower fan turn on points also.

Gas mileage does suck though, probably put a 180 or 195 back in when I go for emissions inspection
