97 type R, should I buy?
Well I am looking at getting this 97 type R, and the guy wants $11,500 for it. It is emaculate. It has a theft recovery title because the motor was stolen, but he replaced it with a j-spec b18c5 with only 35k on it. The body has 48k. It wouldn't pass california smog test, but I live in washington so who gives a shit right! anyway I was wondering if it is a good deal or not, how much do the 97's usually go for? If I don't get the type R I am looking at a 96 gsr for only like $7000. It has 95,000 on it, and he sais it burns a little oil. He has to add a bit every other tank of gas. Which one should I get. Type R is sweeeeeeet, but with what I have for down payment, I would only owe like 2-3k for the gsr. WHICH ONE? and do all vtec motors burn oil around the 100k mark?

i say buy it if everything on the car is mostly stock. If the things been beaten leave it alone. Type R's honestly arent that rare to find hell in a 200 mile radiuos Ive found 5 but there expensive. Thats a Damn good price for the mileage but remember that year doesnt have any AC so its all up to you. talk him down if you can but Ide buy it if I had the money

Re: 97 type R, should I buy?
actually aparently the j-spec itr motor, is a b18c3, so that is what it has, not the b18c5. Just learned that! Does anyone else burn oil with their gsr's with around 90k?

Wtf is a b18C3 o_O? In japan I dont believe that hey #'s after the C lol. Dude if he put a jspec engine into it then I say its not a type R he just amde it look like one. the Type R engine in the 97's here in the US were perfectly fine theres no point in putting in a Jspec. And hes gonna put in AC o_O is that even possible with a Type R. Lol didnt know it had the nobs the coolant all that diff bs.

11,500.. where is this car, because ill buy it over you.. lol
Seriously, i know thats KBB value for that car too. Its just they are so frigin impossible to find close to KBB value. That car i hear is ridiculous for insurance. Mainly because of theft. Hell if you got a garage, then id say it would be a good car.

Re: 97 type R, should I buy?
ya, I am not sure that it is a b18c3, but I herd that that was what the j-spec motor was called, but the guy who told this to me could be wrong. Anyways the reason it has the j-spec motor in it is becuase the origonal was stolen. It is a true type R though, with numbers to prove it. Is it really that expensive for the insurance? What about a gsr, is the insurance really that bad. Right now I have a 96 ls, and I have it fully covered, and then extra $2,500 for rims and system, and I a only paying about $1,000 a year. I am on a group plan with my parents, and have no tickets so it is really low, but if I got a gsr or type R would it jump alot?

WTH is a B18C3?? if that motor is a J-Spec motor then it should be a
B18C..with no # next to C...USDM Type R motor is B18C5.... It's totally up to ur judgement....and I can't say whether I would buy that Type R or not because I haven't seen that car...try to get someone's help...someone who knows a lot about car and stuff... as far as the insurance goes.....I duno...but I heard type R costs ridiculously a lot....defenitely more than a GSR....good luck |

Re: 97 type R, should I buy?
nothing is wrong with my ls. It's just it got vandalized and there are like 6 little quarter size dents, and I got like $4,000 from insurance, and this kid wants to buy my ls without my suspension, rims, and system for $6,000, and I can get this gsr for only $5,800 with less miles, and no door dings or anything, so I can take out a smaller loan and have a better car!I am goiog to have to put a tint on it, and new deck and speakers, and maybe new seats but I will still endu up saving like 3k.
