Your problem sounds similar to mine. At first I had trouble getting the turn signals to work and now that problem has remarkably cleared up, but I don't have any brake lights. Apparently all of that stuff goes through the "turn signal" wand on the steering wheel. I was given an estimate of about 300 to replace the wand. Good luck!

Re: 97 Cutlass Supreme Turn Signal
9 out of 10 it is just the flasher itself (cylindrical shape).
The flasher itself is located under the steering column and you have to remove the cover panel under the steering column. Normaly, it has separate flasher for hazard and another for turn signal. |

I just replaced the turn signal switch on a 94 Cutlass. For whatever crazy reason the brake lights are wired through this switch, ours has one small plastic ear broken off and the brake lights wouldn't work unless you pulled forward on the turn signal lever. It cost about $65 from the dealer and triple that if they put it in. It's not too bad but you have to take off the steering wheel, that's the hardest part, you'll need a puller most likely, then you have to take off a sprocket that is spring loaded and comes off when you remove a lock ring. Once that's off, you remove the switch, it is wired down through the steering column and plugs into a wiring harness under the dash. If you need further info email me back and I'll help as I can.
