Custom exhaust versus Greddy, Skunk2, etc.
my friend recently got a full 2.5" catback exhaust, high-flow cat, and resonator for less than $200 at a local muffler shop. i was preivously considering one of those mail-order exhausts, but this has got me thinking.
what are the disadvantages and advantages of each option? which is going to be better for eveyday driving/better sound and better fuel economy?? why is it so cheap at the muffler shop? could you please fill me in on what is done there? |

most muffler shops use shitty metal, and they don't have a mandrel pipe bender. but my buddy ray does hahaha

yea, also some real exhuast have been tuned specifically for the vehicle, also the bends will be mandrel bent whereas most muffler shops use crush bends, and materials are often of lesser quality like he said. but ask around i got a mandrel bent exhuast done for under 100 bux at a meineke.

Re: Custom exhaust versus Greddy, Skunk2, etc.
exactly, its most likely not going to be mandrel bent, it will just be put on a pipe bender therefor causing restrictions inside the pipe by the bends. They will also be using shit metal as already stated. The sound quality will not be as expected either, it will not have a tone to it what-so-ever, it will just flat out be louder..theres nothing wrong with a homade strait pipe for say a truck or so forth but as far as a particular vehicle application..just spend the money and get a full system that suits your needs the most adiquitely....oh yeah and those high flow cats are junk !!!! waste of money
