Cheaper to rebuild or Replace?

Alright, my D15B2 is starting to drink more oil and now I'm hearing some nasty valve noise. I'm getting to the point where I need to either rebuild the engine, or replace it. In your opinion, what is the least costly route? I don't race, enjoy my 40 plus MPG, but, wouldn't mind a little extra ooomph. I was considering rebuilding the engine and going the MPFI swap route.

Re: Cheaper to rebuild or Replace?

Hmmm - I'd say a swap would be cheaper - rebuild is lots and lots of hours (especially if you are having somebody else do it). The swap would be cheaper.

Re: Cheaper to rebuild or Replace?

I was beginning to think that might be the case. Now, which motor would be the cheapest route?

Re: Cheaper to rebuild or Replace?

I would love to get ahold of a d16a6 but, the salvage yards in my area are picked clean. If I decide to go after a swap I need to be sure the engine would be available. The car is my daily driver so, I wouldn't have a lot of search for an engine time.

Re: Cheaper to rebuild or Replace?

if you want Fuel Economy go with the D15B6 (CRX HF ENGINE) or go with a D16Y8 if you want a bit more power

I like the idea of getting the D15B7 motor. That may be an option. I'm going to start the search this week. Hope to get by without emptying my bank account.
