Overheating
My 98 intrigue w/ 109k overheated while sitting through a couple of lights yesterday. I took my car to a shop and they told me I have a coolent leak caused by faulty gaskets that the intrigue is notorious for. I have read through this forum and haven't found gasket replacement to be an wide spread problem. I was quoted $1,100 for 2 gaskets, thermastat, coolent flush and refill, and labor.
I told them to do nothing, and I was thinking of just replacing the cap on the coolent, I read somewhere the caps can go bad and just replacing them will keep the air out. Can someone tell me what they think about me trying a couple inexpensive fix its before I break down and have a shop do this kind of work. Also is 1,100 excessive for this work? Thanks, Brad |

Re: Overheating
1100 is too much!!! dont pay that unless that is your last resort. What color is your radiator water? If it looks rusty then I would say try flushing it yourself. that would be the main problem. Then if it still overheats which it shouldnt unless you do have a leak then try your idea with replacing the cap. I never heard of that though. good luck though.
