Re: help

you def. need a new deck. no RCA jacks on the factory head unit. they do however make a converter for about $15. you slpice into your speaker wire and then you can plug in rca jacks. the problem is you also amplify all your noise. i did it for a few months in my 2000 alero. i ended up buying a new head unit to run my orion 12s with. sounded much better

no mods or chips required on my 2000 gls. the filler plate is kinda screwed up but it looks good when done. i installed a deeper cd player then cruthfield said i could. there was a need to cut a piece of the plastic in the back to fit it but it has been great for over a year. i used the wired adaptor kit from autozone and everything worked great no mods needed!

Re: audio system

I know 2000 Alero's are DIN and a 1/2 not a double DIN. I've completely replaced everything from the factory radio and speakers. I'm running Pioneer 4x6's, 6x9's and tweeters. I have 3 Audiobahn 12" subs in the trunk. With 3 Rockford amps running everything so I'm pretty sure you don't have to do any mods or special chips for it to work.

I have a 2000 GLS and i left the factory deck and hooked up 2 alpine type R and a v12 deck to the stock system, and honestly it sounds better then when i had my alpine deck. i would recommend that you leave the stock deck in. the only adapter you need is a line out converter. there around $20 at any electronics store.
