99 Chevy Pickup Brakes

I just changed the front brakes on my 99 K1500 Silverado. I have changed brakes before, although, I am not a professional. This one seemed to be a big pain. I'm thinkin, I missed the "easy way." I pounded that "bearing rail" or clip out to expose the "slot" that allows the pads to fall through. It is done, and they are working fine, but I have to believe that there is better way.

Thanks,

Gail
