Question Highway "lag"?

Since I got my 96 spyder GS-T,bout 1.5Yago, I have noticed a "lag" when at highway speeds... Tranny shifts into O/D and after sustaining constant, lets say 60mph, the rpm's drop about 150 or so and you hear it also. When I accelerate it seems to lag or bog down. If I let off the gas for a half second or so and then punch it I have all the power back!!! whoooooosh
I've got the chilton's manual and also the 2 book manual from mitsu and have found nothing. I'm stumped 4 now......

Re: Highway "lag"?

No logger. I have been running cleaner through it almost every tank for about 3 months. My intake manifold has been getting carbon build up and I had mitsu clean it out about 3 months ago. I do get some oil by the throttle body but there is no oil from the BOV to the turbo. I tried a new PCV valve thinking it might be getting in through there...?

Re: Highway "lag"?

It stays in the same gear...almost like the O/D has an O/D to it.... if I slowly accelerate it bogs down like its starving for gas or air... my boost guage goes up so I assume it needs gas. Could the fuel pressure regulator be going bad? It only does that "lag" when in the O/D gear...I know...why even use O/D right? lol Could it be a vacuum leak?...................

check your plugs! i've seen it happen and thats the first thing we did is change them and it worked out fine! either that or your getting some sort of leak somewhere! expect a little idle serge too... 150rpms sounds about right but the lag doesnt unless your TPS (throttle position sensor) is goin out... thats all i can think of right now.

Re: Highway "lag"?

it sounds like normal crapomatic behavior
does it still do it if you disable overdrive? i dont have a 2g so i dunno where the switch is but on a 1g its right on the side of the shift knob.
just as a precaution you may want to get your tranny fluid changed, get them to toss in some conditioner too and make sure they use the right fluid!!!! dsm trannys are very sensitive to having non OEM fluid put in them its the cause of most transmission problems.

btw did you check your tranny fluid level? dunno if you know how or not but you check it with the car running in park or neutral after shifting the shifter through all the gears.

lol... sounds like you a little too attached to your automatic tranny!!! now i never said anything about an auto transmission being crappy... yes they are slower but with the typical upgrades like a shift kit and stall/torque converter you can have the potential to be much quicker, plus you never miss a shift, unless the tranny brakes so dont accuse everyone of saying they suck... i know what potential they have!

Re: Highway "lag"?

yea they have potential but id rather put money into my engine to go faster rather then put money into my automatic tranny just to be able to keep up with the 5 speeds lol and besides chrysler automatics suck for reliability
