I never lost to an import, but had an import. I had an RX7 twin turbo for a little over 2yrs which I just sold in December and I beat quite a few F-bodies and Mustangs in it. The only mods I had were a downpipe and catback. There were a few domestics that gave me a good run for the money, but not many. Guess there aren't many good modded street cars near me. I'm looking for an F-body now myself...gotta love the sound and torque

I have only had 1 run in with a fast import.
That is against a friends modded '97 Supra TT. It's got a downpipe, fmic, cam gears, intake, exhaust, and whatever else is needed to be concidered "BPU++" Anyways, his car should put down something like 400-430rwhp. We got lined up at a light on the street. He was actually kinda nervous racing me, because he thinks my cars VERY FAST. I thought he would be a GOOD matchup for me. Anyways, he was on a street tire, I was on a Nitto. I didn't bother warming the tires up, neither did he. Light goes green, I roll onto the throttle as best I can to prevent wheelspin. He mashes the throttle. Off the line I had like a 4-5 car lead. In the background I could hear his car making boost, followed by the omnimous sound of an aftermarket BOV. I was starting to catch up towards the end, but it wasn't soon enough. He was about 2-3 cars behind when I flashed my brakes (at about 100mph)

Yeah, MKIV Supras are no joke. BPU cars (intake, catback, downpipe, fuel cut defencer, boost controller) which is usually less than $2k in mods is good for low 12's and about 400rwhp or so. They're way overbuilt and can be modded like crazy. They kinda seem to hit a wall at a certain point though as they're not very aerodynamic and are pretty heavy at about 3500lbs. Their big problem in my opinion is the price...they still command top dollar even for high mileage cars. Granted they're super reliable (Toyotal quality) and have tremendous hp potential, but they're still way expensive. I've seen '93s with well over 100k on them still going for $25k and up. Oh and also there are very few 6-speed ones available...most TT's are automatics. Hell for that price you could get a '93-94 F-body, build the engine, s/c, all the goodies, suspension, et cetera and have a faster and equally as well rounded of a car.
Blackbird, your friend might've had some big traction issues too...unless your car has a lot of mods on it. LS1's are killer cars especially on the highway, but with a BPU++ Supra he should be in the mid-low 11's...well IF he can drive. It sounds like you can so that may have been the biggest factor (it usually is).

Well, I'm no expert here, but I have NEVER seen a BPU++ Supra run low 11's.
I've got some buddies with BPU Supra's and the fastest for a BPU I've seen is 12.0@120. I believe MOST BPU++ Supra's are running in the 11.7 range. Keep in mind, that's usually with race gas and tires. In my race, he was BPU+ at the time (he's just added a FMIC) running 93 octane and on street tires. My car in a drag race as it sits now would give him a good run for his money, assuming both of us were in full race trim. This weekend however, my car goes into the shop for a bunch of new mods. He's going to have to upgrade the stock twin's if he expects to beat me now.

Agreed Blackbird....their stock turbos are pretty small and he probably won't get a whole lot more out of them. I've seen a few BPU++ or so Supras in the mid-low 11's, but it's hard to say if they're the exception rather than the rule as so many people get so many different results. If you do any mods at all to your LS1 then it'll be a beast. If he ever does decide to go single turbo though watch out
That just means you'll have to slap an s/c on your ride and you'll probably be right back in front

Well, my T/A is already modded and was already running close to 11's on motor, with only a few minor mods.
However, my friend just added a front mount intercooler and a better boost controller. He says at stock boost with the front mount, it is NICE, and he cant wait to get some race gas in the car to crank up the boost. Either way, my car is in the shop as we speak getting MORE, serious work done. I don't think I'd have a problem with him untill he goes single. And even then, I'll probably put up a good fight (on motor too)
