quits when warm then won't start

89 S-10 2.5l 4tech.

Starts just fine no matter if the weather is hot or cold. Runs fine but recently after a bit of driving (stop and go mainly) or just idleing it starts to bog down and shuts off. It will not start unless it cools of a bit and I pour a bit of gas down the carb. Then it starts and runs fine until the next stop. I just replaced plugs, cap, rotor, etc... fuel filter next. This just came all of a sudden no previous symptoms. Any ideas on the solution to my quandary? Please help

I am pretty sure the spark is good. It seems that there is no gas in the carb when the tk dies. When I move the throttle body I don't see or hear any gas being squirted into it.

Re: quits when warm then won't start

Ok, the new fuel filter is in and, oh my how bad the other one was, and that sure helped with acceleration and idling but the truck still wants to die (bog down) when it is warm. It really hates idling for a minute or two. I am ok if I don't encounter any traffic otherwise I am sol. I does great on the highway no matter how long or far I drive, but idle the darn thing for a bit and it cuts out. When it does the carb is very dry; not a trace of gas. seems very hot too. Once it cools down a bit it fires right up. I do have a coolant leak around the thermostat housing but i keep water level high. Sometimes the check engine light comes on while I drive but goes out within a few seconds (10max) Otherwise there are no codes etc...
Any ideas?

Lightbulb

are you sure you do not have a throtle body or centerport injuection?
If you do then you problem is in the injector. I just spent a grand on the same problem

Re: quits when warm then won't start

Yah, it actually is center point injection deal. at the autoparts store they told me that there are 2 temp sensors. i replaced one just not long ago but have no idea where the other one may be. Any ideas? Like the other thread aboout this it sure seems like something makes the truck cut out. I was hoping that this other sensor may be the culprit. We shall see, i don't really want to spend a whole bunch of money and it sounds like injectors aren't cheap. Thanks for your help.

Re: quits when warm then won't start

I had the EXACT problem in a Corsica 3.1L I owned last year. It would do fine on the highway, but once it got in the city it sputtered and died at every stop light, and would not start for at least twenty minutes. The engine seemed quite hot although it wasn't spewing coolant everywhere.

It turned out that I needed to replace the thermostat. After that, it worked fine. I would say that would be your problem. Look into getting a shop manual for your truck too. It will help you find where your other temp sensor is.

injectors/temp?

you can pick up an injector for under $300 at the part store. the temp sensores are a waist of time in your case, but if you want to replace them they will be on the radiator and on the thermostat housing. The part person/s you talked with probably seen there were two listed and so they told you there were two. Most passenger cars rarely have more than one temp sending unit. Here is what you do to tell if the injector is bad. There are two wires that come out of the injector. Get the truck to shut down, test the wires with an ohm meter remember the ohm value. if it is nothing or open the injector is bad, if you get a reading cross refeance it in a hanes manual.(or chilltons)

Re: quits when warm then won't start

Thanks flygirl. I do have a leak at the thermostat housing. I busted a bolt on it trying to switch out thermostats a while ago and just haven't got it out yet. That could be it. I'm trying to do the simplest first before tossing dough at the heep.

danielmc, thanks man, I'll prob check those sometime anyway.
