AWD to RWD ?

Is it possible with the impreza if I only remove the front axle ?
will I get 100% of the engine power to the rear ?
please help me to do that ?

just a thought

Re: AWD to RWD ?

well it depends on wat u want to do with it. if u want to drift or drag race it is possible to convert it into RWD. and a few people have already done it. but if ur using it for other purposes dont waste ur money.

It might work if you can make some kind of plugs to keep all the fluid from leaking out where the axles used to be. I don't think it would work on an auto or 6 speed either, since they're electronically controlled.

Re: AWD to RWD ?

sport compact or some mport magazine featured an 04 sti rwd several months back, might want to search google to see if they said anything in it about that.

Re: AWD to RWD ?

I can't see how you will get 100% power to the rear....if you just removed the front axles you're likely to lose 100% power to the rear depending on what transmission you have.

You seem to be willing to throw a lot of money at a car to make it do what you want, which it is not what the car is designed to do.

Why don't you trade the Impreza in and get something RWD like you really want, after all, once you do all these mods the Impreza will have no real value.

Re: AWD to RWD ?

haah....you can't just take the axles out duder...all you have to do is take out the center diffrential, open it up, remove all the spider gearing and rings and shit, weld it shut, put it back in. 100% rwd. you don't have to remove the axles either, unless you want to, but the opposition from the front axles is minimal. I can sell you an already welded center diff, so if you don't want the rwd, you can switch back.

but keep in mind, the rear gear is extremely small and not too strong, especially with the LSD. The R180 rear end from nissan will bolt up and let you do endless launches and drifts.

You would probably have to make some sort of welded up center diff too. I've thought about it so I could get my car tuned on a 2wd dyno. For what you want I think you're better off taking the money you'd spend makind it RWD and just buying a RWD beater.

edit: you posted as I was typing

Re: AWD to RWD ?

oh yah, and all the ppl talking about the impreza is meant for rwd, or designed for it are partially correct. the rear end will come out on you so friggin fast and not only just at low speed, so be careful.

I wonder what it would take to use the Nissan R180 instead of the pricey Subaru R180 in an AWD setup? You would need a 3.90 final drive, does the Subaru ring and pinion swap in?

...or an R200 for that matter?

Re: AWD to RWD ?

if i am thinking correctly you can get the gear from it's either the TT 300zx's or the 2nd generation of 280 zx's. There's a writeup on nasioc or clubwrx that one of my friends did, i'll have to search for it.

I've not done the rear end swap yet, and i don't think i'm going to b/c awd is just too badass. It's fun to drift and smoke the tires and stuff, but driving every day kinda sucks ass.

That's what I'm saying, I want to keep AWD but get the stronger and LSD R180, or R200 if it's possible. And now that I think of it you'd need a 3.54 ring to use with a 5 speed and a 3.90 with the 6 speed or auto.
