because- if there is a stock mounting bracket- heheheh- i would like to just buy one from the dealership and not worry about doing the whole custom install mumbo jumbo...

anything to make my life easier.

Upgrades include:

Power:
4 Gauge wire from battery that goes to a fuse box to split down to two 8
gauge wires to rockford fosgate 240.4 (cabin speakers) and punch 100.2 (two 10''s).

Signal:
alpine cva 1000 to 12 disc changer to DEI4000 crossover to aforementioned amplifiers.

ran new speaker wire all around.

rear speakers: 6.5 pioneers that handle the power...
front speakers: uhhh... a couple of fried 4x6 infiniti plates

what i'm thinking is that the internal crossover in the amp AND on the DEI is not cutting off enough lower frequencies which fry the lil front speakers at high volumes...

solution: i've been looking at the black bracket that the speaker mounts into and if i trim the top part of the speaker i might be able to mount a 6.5 in the front- AND have it angled....

so-

the bottom two screws of the 6.5 would mount on the bottom screw holes of the black bracket... and the top two screws would mount into the sheet metal of the door....

know what i mean??

and then naturally- trim the top of the black piece as needed and bend the metal beneath that accordingly so that it will fit.

your thoughts?

Well, I'm no audiophile expert, but I'm thinking that you might have to get the crossover checked out to make sure it's working right. I'm assuming that the crossover is adjustable and you already have it on the highest frequency setting. You may not have to get 6.5s if the crossover can be fixed. Justa hunch.

Try some MB Quart PKC 4" coaxials, retail on em is $350 but I just order some online from www.buyloud.com for $200 w/ shipping. They come with their own crossovers, 5 diff settings on crossover for tweeter, 30 watts RMS 80 Peak on the 4". My old car had MB Quarts and 2 of my friends have the discus line which retails about $120. All of us have been very happy with the quality/volume, I have never heard the reference premiums (PKC) but the discus speakers dont distort very much at all even when it is loud as hell. But anyways the crossovers will help direct what frequencys are being played through the speakers in the front. If you dont get the speakers with crossovers, you can get a better indash that allows you to control the frequencys go to which speakers. Or you can spend $10-$15 on a set of bass blockers so that your tiny little speakers arent trying to make bass like a 6&1/2 or subs. If you dont have anything controlling treble, mids, & bass specifically for each speaker then bass blockers are a must. If you have subs or even 6&1/2 the bass should come from the back. *When* I replenish my wallet enough to worry about spending a grand on my stereo (a while) I am going to get this JVC head unit with (2) pre-amp outs and (1) mono sub out. This means I can have the highs from the 4"s in the front on one preamp out, mids from the 6&1/2s in rear on the other preamp out, and subs controlled by the mono sub controller. You could even have the indash controlling 2 10"s and a base knob for a 12" sub. This way the front speakers arent blatting out shitty lows but crisp highs, the subs arent trying to play highs and sounding distorted. The trick to having a system that sounds good for types of music besides rap is controlling exactly what your speakers are playing and how loud for each speaker. I will be able to control every set of speakers seperatly, thus allowing the each speaker to do specifically what it was designed to do and nothing more.

Go with some high quality speakers and run a couple watts less than whatever the RMS is. I figure if I spend big now and do it right buy the almost top-end products, it saves me lots and lots of time, money and effort.

Infinity Kappa 4x6 coaxial plates. I've run them on 70Wea. for almost 5 years with zero problems.

hrmmm... coax vs. plate...

ok- so this brings up a point-

which do you think are better speakers???

coax 4x6s??

or-

4x6 plates???

i've always been a fan of ROUND speakers... this OVAL crap throws me off...

i dunno- man-

i've been through 6 sets of speakers... maybe i'll try the coaxs before trying to do the conversion to 6.5s (somewhat ireversible)

I run Eclipse Componet 4.5's in the mid positions in the door and it comes with tweets that i put in the original stock position. Crossovers i mounted under the dash. They're loud as hell and havent had a problem yet.

How much power does the amp you are using for these speakers put out?

What impedance are the speakers? What impedance is the amp seeing?

What is the crossover frequency?

How are the speakers baffled? (This is a big one).

Exactly how are the speakers "blowing"? Does the woofer fall off? Do they smoke?

power going to each speaker: 60watts RMS (power comes from a rockford fosgate 240.4 so - 60wrms conservatively)

impedance of speakers: 4 ohm.

impedance amp sees: 4 ohm (4 channels- 4 speakers)

crossover freq: i'm not too sure on this one- i'm going to guess 80hz and lower are filtered out- (anyone know what the factory RF amp crossover chip cuts the frequencies at??)

speakers baffled: no- just poppped into the factory openings where the old ones were...

got any idea???

please? 6.5s ?

Was there any space around the speakers, or were they sealed to the door panel pretty good?

jayntguru-

do you mean the 4x6 plates???

i dropped in 4x6 plates & coaxs into the stock locations like SIX DIFFERENT TIMES, and EVERYTIME- i've blown them.

i just don't think they can handle the volumes i want to listen at... seriously- on a normal basis i drive 100mph with the windows down and with the stereo at full volume and i can barely hear the wind. the pioneer 6.5s in the back are WONDERFUL... so - i am trying to find out if anyone has dropped a set of 6.5s in the fronts of their p10.

but- to answer your question- the 4x6 plates were in the factory positions and they were sealed around the door panel pretty good... (stock setup- just different speaker)

ummmmm-

you wouldn't happen to have 6.5s in your doors would ya?

Not yet. I just sold the big stereo out of my GSX yesterday and I'm online right now looking for speakers and a new head unit. I'll be able to tell you if they fit or not in a week or so.
