engine performance lags at low RPM's???

I have a 2000 Durango R/T with 49k miles on it. Every time I need to give it some power, the 5.9 seems to lag at the low RPM range (1500-2900). Power from the 5.9 engine surges after 3000 RPM's. It feels like the Durango not using a supercharger until it hits 3000 RPM's. Is this normal? I don't have any check engine lights or anything that would indicate a problem otherwise. Most of the driving occurs around the 1500-2500 RPM range and for an R/T model, this Durango drives like a 6 cylinder until you get the engine past 3000 RPM's.

This R/T has been babied and cared for at expense!! 6k Synthetic oil changes, K&N air filter, 24k synthetic trans oil changes, garaged nearly all the time, premium spark plugs and wires, etc, etc, etc, and the list goes on. Kept a maintenance/expense log on this SUV since I bought it.

If this lagging is indeed NOT NORMAL, I hope this is also the cause of my lower than rated MPG's. Avg 10-11 in town and 12-14 on hwy and that's with a very light foot. Can barely afford premium gas anymore nowadays.

I remember reading from dodge forums somewhere, cannot find it now, that someone also had this funny problem and someone said it may be the O2 sensor? Haven't tried to look into a possible speed/TPS sensor problem also as I do not have a check engine light on.

Sorry BleedDodge, I was just using the term "supercharger" as an analogy to the performance problem!!! I wished I had a supercharger installed tho!

I think your catalytic converter is plugging. Is the check engine light on? Something has to be wrong.

I guess I can have that checked also. But no check engine light on.

plugs & wires will not bring your power back try a fuel injection cleaning the hart of performance and not gume out in your tank
