Flat black?

a friend of mine has a s13 hatch, he has it painted flat black...when asked why, he told me that its JDM. i thought jdm was like pastel colors and gloss coats. i hate to use the term jdm but if i told you he said, "drifters in japan have flat black 180's" you would laugh at me. i think its a shitty excuse to use flat black primer to fix his body work. i thought that flat black was more a honda/ricer thing than a jdm/drifter thing....but what do i know?

so, is flat black a good thing ona s13?

i dunno about drifters having it but i think it looks badass... atleast on SCCs project 240 Coupe. anyway either his A/C or sweat glands are in for a workout.

how the hell is flat black paint "JDM"? i painted my old Pontiac beater flat black last winter, does that make it JDM?

and give yourself a little smack too. there's no such thing as a JDM paint color, like pastel or gloss. they use all the same damn paints that we do.

does your friend read alot of super street? he sounds like a bandwagon jumper.

flat black is good for a temporary fix if you have mis-matched body panels or bondo spots and want your car to match for the time being until you can afford a real paint job...but other then that, it doesn't have much merit.

but your right JDM is takin completley out of proportion and as one of the biggest intusiests i know....eveyone throws around jdm, or j-spec for things that are clearly american influanced...im sorry...a lil bondo n primer never hurt no one....my friend basicley gota 240 cause i did...n its realy a pain...cause evn tho i know nothing he knows less than me...witch is sad...but he likes what he likes....we went to a car show...for some reason...there wa sa hot rod painted flat black.. i think he liked it too much his 240 has like 170k on it so u can imange what the original paint is like....mines only got 90k but its gota flat black silvia front n gloss black chassie..mine gets painted ina few weeks...i don't think hes gona pain his...i personaly plan on geting the OEM matched black paint on the car getin silvia tags...n tryin as hard as i can too look lika silvia..
i just put the front end on acualy...it was a cake walk....the hardest part was getin the bmper strait without a support an gettin a 28x12x3.5 IC in there. i'm getin off subject, people do crazy things for crazy reasons i'll never understand or choose to do personaly who am i to say whats jdm n whats not....i do what i like..not becase somone else did it not cause its jdm cause its what i like.

Flat Black is awesome and its the new drifter fad here.... I like it cause its simple and if you mess it up pull out another krylon can and spray away.

i don't get it. you're buyin the paint here. it's not japanese paint probably. so it's not JDM. you can say it LOOKS jdm. anyway, good for you for doing that you like. but i can still give my opinion: leave the hatchback alone and concentrate on more important things.

seriousley dude, you need to learn how to type properly. i could barely understand that large post you made up there.

if you actually take the time to write whole words ("and" instead of "n" doesn't take THAT much longer, does it?), use proper punctuation (instead of "...." to seperate sentences), and learn how to spell words properly, you'll notice that people will respect you more and will often help you more. some people will even skip over a post if it's as bad as your's was, so my advice would be to take some time to clean up your typing.

but it's just friendly advice.

how long do flat black paint jobs last? is there any type of clear top coat for it? if not, can you even wash it?

flat black would be good for drifitng cause if u hit somthing, all u have to do is sand it and spray primer on it and it matches the car again. dont know how long it lasts, i would just spend 200 bux n send it to maco or somthing to get some color on it. now that i think about it, most people who drift realy dont care much what there cars look like. so i guess thats kinda pointless. however i did see a ae86 ina v-option before with spots of primer grey on it. does that count?
