I have a 1997 Lumina with 103K miles which was, and still is, running quite well but a few days ago started to not only decelerate poorly when I took my foot off the gas, but would accelerate as if in a no-clutch coast on even a gentle down-slope.
I checked the transmission fluid and it is OK. I also have had a fuse blow which controls my dash gauges and warning lights just yesterday. Are these likely to be related and what will cause the condition with coasting I'm experiencing? |

Your throttle cable may be getting stuck just before it closes all the way. Spray some lithium grease on the cable and pump the gas a bunch of times to get it worked in good. (do this with the car off)

Re: 97 Lumina Deceleration problem
Thanks, I'll try that. The problem is intermittent and has not happened for a few days. Maybe, with your help, it will not happen again.
I'll let you know. |

Re: 97 Lumina Deceleration problem
ANother thing (if not what was mentioned above) could be the dtart of the TCC failure that is so commonly known around here. Thats how my GF van started acting when the TCC started to stick.
Then eventually is locked up when hot and I disconnected it. |

Nahh that doesnt sound like TCC to me. Kinda strange though I have to admit. It could also be a heavy buildup of carbon and gunk in the throttle body. If it gets to nasty in there the throttle valve may not shut all the way. It alwyas helps to clean that out every once in a while.
