skyline a good car?

sorry with the consitant amount or questions i wanna get a skyline and im trying to learn with poeple that have one. anyways im looking right now at a 1997 Nissan Skyline R33 GTS TURBO with 14,000 miles on it and its a 6 speed manual. is the skyline a real reliable car or do u need to constantly tune and keep maitaining it other than oil changes and etc. im about to graduate high school and im thinkin about geting a skyline for college. i wouldent really have time to costantly maitain the car other than the basics. or should i just get an american g35 with like 30k miles on it and just drive that i really want a skyline though

Re: skyline a good car?

If you want a convenient car that will cost less to maintain/replace parts, and will still likely have a warranty, get the G35. It's close enough to the current Skyline, anyway. You can even change out the badges if it makes you feel any better.

Re: skyline a good car?

the skyline is a very good car, but I would get it only if you are getting it as a second car or are prepared to take the bus whenever it breaks down on you... most parts for the skyline are not available at your local dealer or auto parts store, so you will have to order them from japan, which can take weeks...

you should just get a G35 and be happy with it or

get a cheap car, save you money and get the next GTR in 2007...

I would definitely get the skyline. I have had no mechanical problems with my R33 at all...well...except for a new clutch center plate which is due the pounding it received.

If you plan on leaving it stock or close to stock, then you should have no problems with it at all. But if you are planning on heavily modding it, keep in mind that the standard mechanicals may not stand up to the pressure...like the clutch and other driveline parts, which will eventually crap out and need replacing.

They are an awesome car to drive. Great handling (with some suspension tuning) and can drift soooooooooo easily and performance that will blow your mind (once the hp has been ticked a bit). Not saying that they are slow stock...but once tuned...damn quick!!!
