Low temp thermostat. Run Cooler better?

I have a 160 degree thermostat lying around and im wondering what is the benefits in running cooler and is it better? I do mostly normal driving and race now and then at the tracks. Wouldnt mind some extra hp tho since i own an accord. I was wondering if it is even worth it to put it in. I kno it will give a few extra hp but what else do i benefit? Also will it take longer for my car to start warming up b/c if it does i dont wanna rev it a lil to high when it is still cold and mess up my bearings.

Re: Low temp thermostat. Run Cooler better?

you engine will last longer, remember heat and friction are enemies to your engine. im not sure if you will gain HP. BTW there is after market coolent additive that are formulated to make your coolent cooler. (redline) is the name of the one i have tried and works great! also if you looking to baby your engine get (seafoam) from you napa dealer.

Don't use the water wetter from redline, you cannot use it with coolant. Also the cooler thermostat will help very very very little if any with hp but it will decrease gas mileage. You car needs to be at a specific temp to run properly and get good gas mileage.

Re: Low temp thermostat. Run Cooler better?

yea i heard about that additive that runs the engine like 20º cooler. It is a lot cheaper than a thermostat too.

Anyway did hear that the engine will last longer, gas mileage wil decrease, slightly unoticable hp gains and slightly poorer emissions but will it take longer to warm up the car or same time as a normal thermostat?

Hm... what if u guys were given a free low temp thermostat and knew how to change it and all the crap... would u guys go ahead and use it or no?
