I ran across this definition on the web, seems to be pertinant to your question:

Airbag Flash Codes

Air Bag Lights

The Air bag light will illuminate to indicate a fault with the air bag circuit. It will also flash a code to indicate which part of the circuit is at fault.

If a air bag light :

Illuminates and remains on there is a fault with the air bag module or it has lost a feed or an earth.

Flashes constantly there is a fault with the air bag clock spring.

Flashes once there is a fault with the Drivers air bag

Flashes twice there is a fault with the Passengers air bag

Flashes four times there is a fault with the seat belt pretensioners.

Flashes five times there is a fault with the drivers side air bag.

Flashes six times there is a fault with the passengers side air bag.

Tricks of the trade

If the air bag light flashes four times indicating a fault with the pretensioners, with the ignition off, disconnect the pretensioners yellow connectors which are usually positioned under or very near the seats. Wait a couple of minutes and then re-connect them. What happens is sometimes the circuit get a spike and illuminates the light, disconnecting then resets the system and the light goes out. If the light continues to flash there is probably a fault with one or both of the sensors.

WARNING

Air bags can be very dangerous if you do not handled correctly. If you are unsure about anything do not carry out any work on them or the circuits.

You must wait at least one minute after disconnecting the battery before disconnecting the air bag module or any other supplemental restraint system electrical connectors. Failure to follow these instructions can greatly increase the possibility of accidentally deploying the air bags and as a result, cause personal injury.

The use of radio keycode savers is not recommended when working on any part of the air bag system. Failure to follow these instructions can greatly increase the possibility of accidentally deploying the air bags and as a result, cause personal injury.

Failure to follow any of the following instructions can greatly increase the possibility of accidentally deploying the air bags and as a result, cause personal injury.

Always wear safety glasses when working on an air bag system or a vehicle equipped with an air bag.

Always carry an un-deployed air bag with the bag pointing away from the body, this will minimise potential injuries if the air bag is accidentally deployed.

Always place/store an un-deployed air bag with the bag facing up.

Wash your hands thoroughly after handling a deployed air bag because there may be deposits of sodium hydroxide which can be a skin irritant.

Code 44 From my 1992 Town Car Service manual,

RH Radiator Primary Crash Sensor Not mounted to Vehicle Properly

Possible causes

1 Poor connection

2 Open or damaged wire

3 Open circuit inside sensor

The above info is from the U.K. and they must use a different code system.
