4th gen engines

are the camaro engines lt1& ls1 some of the toughest engines around? Ive owned a 94 and now own a 97, and with both cars i would occasionally (sometimes more than occasionally) 'drive it like i stole it' and the engine in my 97 seems just as powerful now as the day i bought it (the stock transmissions suck though) same with my 94, but i only had that one for about 20 thousand miles

probly not the toughest around, but they make pretty descent power. LT1 and LS1 will spin bearings, throw rods, and burn pistons just as easy as any other of today's motors.

Re: 4th gen engines

they are tough but all engines are tough. a really nice set up IMO is the cobra svt engine DOHC supercharged. that kind of set up seepes really tough. or the gt-40 by ford. now thats serious engines. and i amgoing to have to highly dissagee with you on the stock transmissions for the manual side. the automatic is blow what ide expect. but the T-56 is oone of the toughest transmissions out their. go to any tranny shop and aske them about the t-56. those things can handel up to 600 hp i think, before any internal work is needed to get more power.

Re: 4th gen engines

its runnin great! prefect vacume and compression. just had to fix the oil leak the lt1's are famous for. but ive done a few mods and i think one thing thats expanding th elife of my engine is my manual cooling fan hi/lo switch. my temp hasent gone above the first hash mark ever since i installed it! if your intrested in one i'm selling them to lt1's for about 20 bucks. alot cheaper than the slp one and others. plus it has led's to tell you when your fans are running. its really sweet! but nothing major beside the oil leak with my engine. however ^.^; i forgot that the engine was replaces at 30,000 miles with a new lt1 (oil pump stoped working) so i almost have 70,000 n the engine and 10000 on the tranny

the GN engines are one tough SOB's There are countless GN's running around with 100K miles or more runnin 27+ PSI of boost on them.

I work on some of the toughest engines on the market. CAT diesel engines

Re: 4th gen engines

yeah man, old school tech goes along way, i mean damn, my TPI engine, and TBI engine are dinosuars by todays standards, but like ive posted before, my L98 with 150,000 miles, who i know was abused by the previous owner, and who konws what by the retards before him, had never had a tune up, or emissions test in 14 years, bought her, brought her home, never a hiccup, did a few things for tune up, serivice and whatnot, and shes purrin like a kitten, and tears it up when i hit the gas, only thing i gotta adress is the typical small block chevy oil leak at the front and rear. and a valve cover i think. and the 160,000 miles on the RS hadnt fazed her, till that grease monkey dropped a nut down in a head and blew it. so now im running a jasper unit. but yeah, both engines, give em a tune up, and theyd run just as good as they came off the line.
