Just yesterday, it has been acting funny. When ever it's cold, it's fine. But once it heats up, then the funny stuff happens. I can normally go out, after school, start it up (which is fine) and once it starts, the tach goes from 1k to 1.5k back down to 1k to 1.75k over and over till is sort of idles higher than want it's supposed to be Also, whenever i just tap the gas, the tach will go up to 2 or 3 rpm and stay for a few minutes till it starts to go up and down again. I've tryed resetting the ecu, cleaning the throttle body, and checking for stick in the throttle cables and it still does it.
Any help, because it's starting to become undrivable? Could it be the main relay by chance?

Re: Out of Control RPM's
I was going to say try cleaning out your IAVC but I don't think thats it. Is it only during the warmup period or like first 15 minutes it'll do this. Or does it only do this sometimes?

Re: Out of Control RPM's
Sounds like the distributor is shagged.

Re: Out of Control RPM's
It's when the engine is warmed up. It also seems to pop up at the wrong times. Like today, when in 4th gear, I let in the clutch and the rpms stayed at idle. but after 3 minutes, I did it again and it stayed at 2.3k rpms. Sometimes, it'll surge up and down when I'm moving with the clutch while the car is moving.

Re: Out of Control RPM's
Idle surges. If you do a search of 'idle surge' there should be some that come up, its happened before.

Re: Out of Control RPM's
map sensor, tps, eacv, vaccum leak......the most common causes of idle surge. Check those first.

Re: Out of Control RPM's
could also be costly like a burned valve, blown head gasket or your head can be trashed. do u have smoke at WOT? if not its not the head.

No smoke, nothing. But there is good news though! Today, the car never acted up once. I did try something like unpluging the EACV plug and putting fuel injector cleaner in and one of the two fixed it. It does hold a steady idle now but does hover occasionally maybe 200 rpms above normal idling. So I guess Problem is fixed. If any thing else pops up, I'll post. Thanks to all!
