Re: Start up problem

On my toyota 4 runner I had the same prodlem
I think it is in the wire harness at the ignition swicth
not the ignition swicth. but were the wires make conact in the plastic houseing.
I did put new wires (but not the houseing) this helped
but it didn't solved the problem it's in the metal contacts.
I replaced
The starter
The cables 2ea.
The battery
The ignition swicth
The wireing

The only thing left is the plastic mount for the metal
contacts behind the ignition swicth.
This only what I think.

Re: Re: Start up problem

Check to see if your fuseable links are good 2 are right on by the starter-check for continuity on each side of them w/battery disconected-
bet that is it...
Sounds like solinoid wire is bad Check for + 12v in key on 'run'
Can you hear the solinoid click when it won't start ??

Re: Start up problem

I have the same problem in my '91 GTA, doesn't happen all the time...just enough to be annoying. There is no sound when you turn the key, but there is power. I replaced the solinoid but it still does it from time to time.

Also note if you have the tilt wheel option and your car has trouble starting, make sure the tilt wheel isn't all the way up. Try lowering it and see if it will start. That is what happend to my friends 85 firebird, he found that out after replacing the solenoid.
