Tow ball instalation on bumper?
I have a 04 Silverado, 4.8. I need to tow a small trailor, maybe 500 pounds, about 40 miles. I dont have a tow package. There is a place on my bumper for a ball. Looks like there are 3 circles on the bumper for ball instalation? Now for my question. Does the circle on my bumper just pop out or does it need to be cut out? To me it just looks like the circle is etched and may have to be cut? I was hoping it was serrated and just needed a good whack with a hammer and it pops out. maybe not.

It's supposed to pop out with a good hit. But I would recomend that you take a razor knife and score it almost all the way through.
Then just push it out. |

Re: Tow ball instalation on bumper?
You dont need to score it with a razor, Just use a screwdriver from underneath and it will just pop out.
This way you wont damage the plastic and it will pop in tight again if you decide to take the ball out later. -Jimmy |

You'll never know when you need to tow a trailer. Get yourself an aftermarket class III hitch. I got a Reese for about $105 at Walmart and installed it myself. When you get a wiring harness, remember that you need one that will take into account separate turn signals. About $130 total well spent! (And a lot less than what Chevy wanted for the tow package!)

Re: Tow ball instalation on bumper?
Even if you don't have the tow package, there should be a spot in the wire harness under the box and behind the license plate where you can put in a T-splitter to run trailer lights. If you get one of these, make sure to put some dielectric grease around the sealing rubber gasket to keep the road crap out. I replace mine every 2-3 years because it gets ruined. Also, make sure you have a good ground to attach the white wire to.
