I drive an '04 Silverado LS, V8, 2WD, Ext Cab. I'm looking to upgrade the wheels and tires on it right now. I was wondering what size of wheel and size of tire would be ideal to give my truck a higher stance and bigger look. I know I want the BFG All-Terrains. I also live in the desert, so going out there every once in a while for cookouts, etc. would be essential (no serious offroading). That being said, I need room for a little bounce in my truck so no wheel well rubbing should occur. What's the biggest do you think I can go?

Being stock height, the biggest I would go is 18's. It will help fill in the fender/tire gap with a slightly bigger all-terrain tire.

So you think an 18" wheel would suffice? How big of a tire do you think I should go with?

I just visited Discount Tire. They suggested that I get a 16 x 8 wheel and a tire size of 265/75/16 All Terrain. Does this sound accurate? They also quoted me $130 nor Nitto tires and $161 for BFG. I wanted the BFG to begin with, but the $31 less Nitto seems tempting. Are they any good?

It all depends on what you like. If you would prefer 18's do it. I've run Nitto's, the street tires, when i had 17's. I didn't like them one bit. I love my BFG's need new ones very soon i discovered today. My buddy has 18's and nittos on his z71 thats lift 6", he loves them. I drove it and it drove great.
For 16's that will suffice, but from your original post you seemed pretty set on bigger wheels. If that's what you want tell them. Don't try and get them to sell you a product you don't want. I'm not very knowledgeable on all-terrain, off road tires, so i can't really help you out in the way of tires sizes. Remember, get what YOU want, not what THEY are trying to sell you.

The 265/75 is probably about as tall as you can go without some sort of lift. Any taller and you may get into rubbing issues with the rear fenderwell at full steering travel. I'm going to go with a 245 or 255/70-16 when my stock tires wear out. And I'm going with the BFG All Terrain A/T. I also mounted 16 x 8s on the truck last month, with a 3 5/8" backspace. If you wonder how that size would look, that's what's in the picture.
