93 heads onto a 99 swap
My 93 auto shot a rod right through the case. I was able to find a replacement out of a 99 (22k). engine, tranny, cv's and intake. The tranny looks like it will plug right up, with the exception of moving the motor mount. the cv's look the same diameter etc.
But the intake is another question. One is the high-low port issue. The second is the wiring harness, and the 3rd involves the condition of the 93 heads and the finial would be will I be able to shut my hood with the 99 intake if I were to use it. I would like to use it, but not sure what kind of can of worms that would be involved in changing the wireing harness to accomidate the 99 intake. So the options are: A. swap heads. 1. will they fit? 2. cam timing, how difficult is this? OR B. no head swap. 1.wire harness swap, this sounds like a nightmare. 2.will I need a hood scoop? 3.do I need to change out any engine management parts 4.if this is possibe, how much $. Anyone been down this road before and have any comments? I have ordered a service manual that has not arrivied yet. Frog 1975, "drive it like you stole it" |

head swap update
decided to swap heads and intake.
turns out the cam timing issue is no problem. the timing chain has different colored links for the mating marks on the crank and cam gears so it lines up with no guessing. The hardest part was removing the head bolts even with a two foot breaker-bar. I can see why you need to replace the head bolts, by the time you torque them off, if you were to reuse them you take a big chance of striping them when you torque them back on. I broke a 3/8 extension and twisted a allen socket on the first bolt and it didn't budge. However, there is a special Nissan tool for this but I didn't have it and ended up using a good allen wrench with a stout breaker bar. The 93 heads, intake and exhaust manifold comes off and can be installed in one piece. My next step. Now I am in the market for head gasket, head bolts and a front transmission mount, And, if anyone is interested, the 99 heads, 99 intake and 99 exhaust manifold are up for grab's. Only 22k miles. frog1975, drive it like you stole it |

the only thing i can think of would be that the 99 is OBDII vs the 93's OBDII. but the only sensor on the block that you might have a problem w/ would be the knock sensor. did you ever get it to work?
