Starting Problems

I have 1994 s10 Blazer and when I try to start it after it has been sitting longer that 1 hour It will not start at all..

I can hear the fuel pump engaging.
I have spark.

Now to get it started I have to take the fuel filter off and dump the fuel out. ( the fuel comes out clean also). Then When I re-install the fuel filter it starts right up.

This is driving me nuts as I have to keep taking a fuel bath to start my truck up.. any help would be appreciated. Thank You

Does it start right up after sitting all night and does it start up right if you turn it off and then turn it right back on?

sorry for taking so long to respond back but I had to take another gas bath.. sheesh


ok If it sits all night I have to take the filter off and dump what fuel is in it, then put it back on and it will start up.


It will start right back up after driving awhile and I shut it off and start it.
But if it sits for longer than a coulple of hours I get to take that gas bath again..

I had a similar problem and after the dealership checked and changed most of the parts the finally changed the fuel pump and I haven't had a problem since and its been like 2 months. You could also hear my pump but noitced that since the new one was installed it is much quieter.

I would suggest checking the psi at the Schraeder valve to see if it's within spec. Could be a bad fuel pressue regulator or a weak fuel pump?? It also sounds like the old "vapor" lock but that shouldn't happen with pressurized FI systems. Maybe a pinched fuel line somewhere?

Have you replaced the fuel filter?

Are you sure you have GOOD spark? Weak spark might do this. Cap and rotor, ignition control module, good wires, plugs. I have had really strange starting problems from after-market caps and rotors - several times, in fact. I will only buy factory replacement units now.

I had the same problem. I tried replacing the distributor cap and changing the spark plugs but neither fixed the problem. Finally, after some investigation and posting questions in this forum, I decided to check the fueld pump. Sure enough, it wasn't right. So we changed the fuel pump and I haven't had a problem since. (Of course, everything else on the blazer is tearing up, I should have bought a japanese vehicle). You need to check the pressure of the fuel pump during start-up and normal running modes. The pressure should fall within a certain range for each mode (I can't remember exactly what the pressure should be, I think around 60-65psi during start-up and high fifties while running. Someone else can probably tell you.) Good Luck!
