building up a KA
Well thanks for all the help i do plan on building up my ka and then maybe not really put a lot of thought into, but turbo charging the ka. Really that'd be later in the future, cause at the job i am at, i don't make alot of money, and am still in school. I wanted to know where i could find good prices on parts for building up my ka, and some good ideas, in boosting my ka. And if i do decide to turbo charge what are some things i might need to do to prepare my engine for the boost the turbo will give me. Thanks again!

Re: building up a KA
depending on the condition of the current engine it's usually cheaper to turbo first and then solve problems later.
The main issue with doing a 'performance rebuild' is to make decent power you need to do things that are not turbo friendly. Maybe post your mileage, year, and budget to get better answers. Good luck. |

Re: building up a KA
Importperformanceparts.net has some good internals and kits. realnissan and like FMAX and XS have some pretty good turbo kits. Some of the other guys on here really know thier shit when it comes to turbos. The realnissan kit supposedly pushes 230rwhp and 230 ftb of torque.

the car i got is a 1990 240 with the sohc i have around a 130k miles, i usually make around a 100 bucks a week, not much, but i am only part time and still in school. Not many people at school can help me out. they all worry about the looks of the car, but i am interested in the performance. thanks for all the help.

Re: building up a KA
Welcome to the club man. I am the same way other than when i tell people at school i want to put a turbo kit in, they ask what a turbo is and say they want a wing on thier car. I would say look in a junkyard or try car-part.com for a low milage engine and a realnissan starter turbo kit should make for a good street performer.

Re: building up a KA
You can get a KA24DE(DOHC) for 800-1000 bucks, it will run great and has a little more power stock, plus it will make more power in the long run. my cousin just put a new KA in his 240, it cost him $850 I think, I can find out where he got it from if you would like to know, just PM me and we can talk details.
if you turbo the engine your gonna want to rebuild it for a turbo, it'll save your money and engine in the long run

Re: building up a KA
The biggest problem I see is at $100 a week without expenses taken out (i believe) that is not enough to really screw around with a car you probably need to use. You'd want to save for a turnkey kit definitely as these pretty much come problem free for the novice. You may not make max power but you won't be frying pistons and other things (hopefully) either.
Now doing a low mile KA24DE swap may be smart....you'd get a fresh engine, one that is better supported, but you'd may need to swap harnesses, ECUs, trannies, etc...it'd be the smart thing to do on a budget. I would not really mess with a turbo until I knew I had the turbo + Misc covered and enough reserve to at least drop in a new engine should I enter a 'meltdown' ![]() Good luck. Å |

Re: building up a KA
I'm in almost same position as ccbd, I was thinking sr20det swap into a 90 240 but I didnt wanna waste a good engine, I looked at the FMAX stage 2 turbo kit and the KA24DE Engine kit (all from importperformanceparts.net) to go on my KA24DE, is that all i need or should i get other parts, I also thought I should redo the engine mounts?
