Anyone Ever have this Problem???

I just bought a 1996 Mitsu 3000GT last fall. When I drove it today it was running fine and then all the sudden I lost all gears. This is an automatic car not standard.

You can put it in drive, reverse, neutral, but its as if it is not engaging. It feels like you are in nuetral and stepping on the gas.

I had no signs of transmission problems and it always shifted fine.

Any Ideas?????

Ouch. I only have manuals but when anything like that happens, it usually means rebuilding or replacing the tranny

I hope someone here might be able to offer a better prognosis, but something in the linkage has gone to hell.

your shifter cable could have broke so while your shifting into reverse, drive, neutral or which ever gear, its not engaging it on the transmission. Just take a look, the cables are right underneath your intake pipe. Here's one way of checking it, take of your intake pipe, and get a buddy to stand right there and look to see if it moves while your changing the position from park to reverse to neutral etc

Can the cable break while i was driving the car? If so wouldnt it of stayed in drive and not allowed me to put it into park. Or, when it breaks does the car go into neutral?

I was driving it and then i lost the gear and it felt like it was in neutral. Also, if I put it into park and then into Drive the doors lock. Would they lock if the cable was broke?

Any info helps
