Re: 17x8.5 rims on civic? possible?

Those are too big. Acceleration is going to be quite slower because those will weigh a lot more than stock rims. Why not go with 16X7? Those are probably the biggest I'd go on a civic.

With the right offset you might get it to work, but I still think those rims are too wide. You'll probably have to roll the fender to keep from hitting and may have to take out some of the splash guard inside the fender to keep them from rubbing that.

no they dont hit the inner fender or the splash guards--if its for style and not race then 17's are fine if he is going for race well then of course you want smaller rimz like nice 16'' racing harts!!!

Re: 17x8.5 rims on civic? possible?

My suggestion is...Get something like Rota Slipstreams or any lightweight rims. 15"s or 16"s are just right for Civics. They are cheaper and lightweight. Ride quality will be a lot better than 17"s.

For 17"s and up, "most" tires are even more than $100-150 a piece. With the money you save, you can buy better performance parts for the engine than just the *BLING BLING* factor the 18"s will give (Assuming you do get it to fit there). Well, thats what I would do. Its all up to you if you still want to go with the 17X8.5.

how wide are your rims? I've always thought that 8.5" is pretty fucking wide for a Civic.

They are too wide...If you wont rub the fenders, its the strut your gonna rub. You are bound to rub either one of them.

Re: 17x8.5 rims on civic? possible?

looked it up my 17's were 7.5
8.5 is large are they deep dishes?

wouldnt it be wise to get 205 40's or 35's for the tires? to also prevent the threat of rubbing the inner fender if the car is lowered

Re: 17x8.5 rims on civic? possible?

40 series is the lowest I would go, 35 doesn't have enough sidewall IMO. But he'll still rub I think, unless they are in some crazy offset.

Re: 17x8.5 rims on civic? possible?

40 is too low for me. I dont know about 6th gens but for the 7th gen Civics, with 16"s, would go 205/50/R16 perfectly.205/55/R16 or 215/50/R16 could fit according to some tire companies that i asked.

Re: 17x8.5 rims on civic? possible?

on the 7th gen they recommend 7 wide... and you can either go 17 or 18... u had some 18x7 on mines for a while but took em off and sold em... but nowadays they make some pretty light 18's and 17's that are comparable to some light 16's
